SANFL Finals Predictions.

Postby wristwatcher » Sun Aug 24, 2014 12:56 pm

I'm sure Big Phil will do threads for each games but for the time being I'm interested to see how posters think the finals will pan out starting with what should be a good night at AO next Saturday.

It would be good if we could avoid negatives on this thread and just talk about the footy and the predictions.

Eagles by 1-12
Norwood 13-24.

SANFL Finals Predictions.

Postby Jim05 » Sun Aug 24, 2014 1:04 pm

Norwood and South by 40 plus.
Bit disappointed that the finals series has changed. Will be interesting to see how many stick around for the later game.
Unfortunately our game clashes with my local footy finals so either going to miss the last half of my country side or the first half of Norwood :(

Heart

Sturt 11-20
South 21-30

Head
Norwood 21-30
South 21-30

Really looking forward to the double header. I'll be sticking around for both games.

I will be. Need to see who Sturt will be playing next week :)

Can't say I share your optimism in the Legs winning by >7 goals. It's a long time ago but when I watched Sturt smash Norwood at the Parade earlier in the season they were very impressive. The effect of the bigger oval may be a factor one way or the other.

They beat us by 3 goals at the Parade when we were playing poorly and adjusting to the new coach early on. We accounted for them by 4 goals in the return game and have improved quite a bit since then.
A lot will depend on the availability of key players this week, Panos may struggle to get up.
Hope the new setup works but must admit it seems strange that the "lesser" game isnt first and the main game is played under lights

Norwood and Eagles comfortably. Eagles will then knock Sturt out in straight sets, Norwood to beat the Power, Power to beat Eagles and Norwood to win another flag!

Think for both games it's too early to say, weather and injury/selection could play a big part.

In the early game, I think the bigger ground probably suits Sturt more than us. If we get on top and are allowed to play on our terms we're hard to stop, but we'll get challenged in the finals and I don't think we're proven yet in that department in 2014.

In the 2nd game I have no idea who to pick .. South should probably have the midfield and ruck edge, but the tall towers for the Eagles could really benefit from the extra space at AO.

Shapes up to be a really good finals series.

Norwood 31-40 and South 21-30 for me. Norwood are absolutely red hot and my pick for the premiership. It'll take more than a big win over West, who were awful all year away from home, to convince me that the Eagles are back in form that will win them finals.

New set up is interesting. I think it depends on the teams involved though to be honest. Norwood and Sturt have considerably more crowd pulling power so yes there's a risk of a smaller crowd for the second game. However, had Norwood Sturt been the elimination final, I think that game would still have had more there for it than South Eagles.

Looking forward to getting along, and the weather looks like being great!

I'd assume Norf will play at Prospect and Norwood will play the Bays at the Parade at normal time but details will be released tomorrow

I'd assume with the huge numbers of juniors that ended up rotating through the league side the Bays would have a very good squad to pick from for this weekend. Admittedly I'm not familiar with the exact qualification criteria.

South def Eagles.
Eagle have an awesome forward line but if South cut off the supply from the middle then I think they'll win easily. Maybe 5 goals.

Sturt def Norwood
I think most will be expecting a Redleg win but I think Sturt might surprise them and get up by les than 2 goals.

It's a good sign for the contests that all four teams have been tipped. Hopefully both close games.
