Good post. And I agree with this.

But my point is that these realities are inescapable, and hiding behind said rock does nobody any favours.

Well in lieu of a full afl reserves comp, my preferred option too, I think the crows and power getting a reserves team was always going to happen, given the perceived success from an afl point of view of the Victorian clubs doing the same

agree they were always going to get reserves sides. disagree that it "had" to be in the SANFL league.

could have called their bluff. offered them the ressies or nothing, let them go to the amateurs for their reserves side. i havent seen any "increase" in media attention to the sanfl this season. i have seen a change in what little there was away from the sanfl sides, and onto the crows and power sanfl sides. no benefit there, would have been no different if they were elsewhere instead of ******* over our league.

There has been a huge increase in media attention imo, particularly because of the ch7 telecast, but I do agree that a lot of it has been around the afl teams and the benefits of that could be debated

ah, but we were told the channel 7 deal was nothing to do with the reserves sides. the sanfl could have fronted the money either way. i dont recall channel 7 ever saying the deal hinged on the reserves being in the league.

i do seem to remember though part of the crows proposal was that they had sponsors for the production costs already lined up. in theory the sanfl could still have found their own.

I'm under no illusions that the reserves sides helped the coverage get to 7, for sure

This question may have been covered in another thread but here goes.
Where will the 2015 Port Adelaide 18-22 year academy players (playing SANFL reserves) come from if they have no zone?

Many of this years reserves and U18's would be offered "contracts" for next year, then I'd expect the club to align, as Adelaide seem to wish to, with an amateur league club.

That doesn't seem a sustainable model for attracting talent. In 3 years time, any real talent would have already been picked up by a SANFL club (with a zone) via the 18's comp.

sadly, they will. didnt take much pressure for them to agree to much greater upheaval last year. im sure by now the afl clubs whistle and the sanfl delegates come running wagging their tails

That's why I expect it will a different model next year, probably again the year after and who knows from there.
