Surprisingly from that list only Ponting significantly increased his average after the age of 24 when the common school of thought is you are reaching your peak in your mid to late 20s

What do we think the plan for tonight is.

Anything less than 500 from here will be slightly dissapointing.

Will there be a declaration and what will will it be.

Get to 500-550 and get them in ASAP?

Put a big 600-650 and then have 3 days in the field to bowl them out twice?

Go the slap straight away and get bowled out for around 450-475 but keep the game moving forward?

Bat for as long as we can, pitch is going to deteriorate quickly.

Runs are nice, but we have to take 20 wickets.

Very ballsy effort by Clarkey.....typical captains biligerent knock very similar to a Border or Waugh.

Yep 20 wickets will do it with us bowling on the last day. Depending which S.A. will turn up with the bat, it could be over in 3 days?

Didn't watch much of it but from cricinfo reports morkel already had some inconsistent bounce. So assuming watto can bowl a lot of overs I think we bat as long as we can

Just watched the Morkel spell to Clarke, frightening stuff. Great bowling, great rear action (probably in more ways then one) by Clarke.

Think Clarke has just shown what it means to lead by example.

After watching that I hope he doesnt just get a 100 but 150-200

One gutsy effort. Many would have retired hurt or just simply thrown their wicket away

Test cricket at it's best

Clarke was complaining to the umpire at various stages the highlights don't show that. Should learn to play a pullshot, you didn't see anyone try that sort of bowling to Ponting.

In fairness to Clarke though this tactic is something that is just recently coming back in vogue since the rise of Mitchell Johnson

Until the last Ashes series I think you would go a fair way back to find a quick bowl around the wicket with a short leg, short fine leg, square leg, fine leg and deep square leg and then just bowl short ball after short ball

It's as close to body line as we have seen.

I can't remember real well but I didn't even think the great West Indies sides bowling with fields like Johnson and Morkel recently.
