Graeme Hick averaged mid 50's in first class but couldnt make a run to save himself at test level.
I wouldnt read too much into Saffer domestic form when you get to face guys like Tahir and Petersen every week

my point is, how is he supposed to prove himself to your lofty standards in order to play a test match if it is not with excellent first class and ODI form?

I have never seen a ball of South African first class cricket to know what the standards like

His two dismissals this test were as two bad a dismissals you will see from a recognised batsmen in test cricket.

Will this batsman perform in this run chase ?
Last 11 innings

10-6*
10-6
23-17*

Since the 148 his stats

20.00 average

Lots of starts, but nothing BIG

The way we've carried Watson all this time, Clarke could play until he's 40 years old if he likes.

One test. The only thing you do is shoot your mouth off way too early. It is entertaining though.
