It was a tough old school in Hogg Premier this week with no less than 6 coaches losing their matches this weekend despite scoring over 24 hundred points. The high scoring round provided a classic as Hondo and Buddy duked it out. Hondo's Bluebaggers spudded it up and this handed victory to Buddy Franklin whose oustanding season has been rewarded with top spot on the Premier League ladder.

Hogg heavyweight Darksiders suffered a third loss in five weeks and faces tough opposition in Buddy this weekend and his hold on the top eight is starting to look a bit shaky even though the Darkside were still good enough to rack up 2511. Problem is, Has Been did it better and collected the points. As pointed out in the round fifteen discussion thread, some rookie mistakes were made when using the loophole and this proved to be pretty costly for cyrilanddayle and Richo Richo in particular.

In the major ladder moves Buddy moved a game clear of main contenders Hondo and Corky who both suffered losses. Two teams climbed into the top eight in Q Before You and the Spuds who replaced Richo Richo Man and Underdogs respectively. It's hard to believe that the Underdogs are out but out there are and it might be tough to get in. Who was that wally who said the eight was set a fortnight ago?

Captain Who kept their season alive but Groover will be keeping an eye out on the results of top eight teams over the remainder of the journey. Poon Army, Hawkeye and league caboose Longwood Lions all won important matches and said 'Hey REB we aren't going anywhere' which means alarm bells for the struggling GInger Ninjas as well as MILLERS MOSQUITOES who couldn't cope with the favourites tag and Squeakeroos who are now the most out of form team in the league.

I've got Poon who has scored a whole 20 points less since matches began. Could go either way. Still, would rather Poony than Hondo he's a menace.

Round 14 Previews

Round 14 Fixtures winners in bold

cyrilandayleshow vs. Squeakeroos DTC
Spuds vs. Cork in the Ocean
REBCats vs. Poon Army
Captain Who? vs. Underdogs
Richo Richo Man vs. Longwood Lions
Q Before You vs. Hondo SCC
The Ginger Ninjas vs. MILLER MOSQUITOES
Buddy Franklin vs. Darksiders SCE
Hawkeye vs. Has Been

The Run Home

1. Buddy Franklin 44 (Darksiders, Hawkeye, Ninjas, Richo)

Buddy is a fair chance to win all of these matches although this week’s clash against the Darksiders is a tough one. Win that and Buddy will claim the Minor Premiership. Double chance all but secured

2. Cork in the Ocean 40 (Spuds, Squeakeroos, Underdogs, Hondo)

Corky has three current top eight sides in the last four weeks so top spot looks out. Faces a possible dress rehearsal for the Qualifying Final against Hondo.

3. Hondo SCC 40 (Q, Captain, Spuds, Corky)
I reckon Hondo wins all of these and gets second spot and match up with Corky in the Qualifying Final.

4. Has Been 36 (Hawkeye, The Ginger Ninjas, Richo, REBCats)

Has Been has played all of the top sides and should account for the Cats in the last round to finish on 13 wins. Might even sneak into second or third. Double chance.

5. Darksiders SCE 32 (Buddy, Q, Captain, Spuds)

The Darksiders face four pretty tough matches in the last four weeks. I’m tipping that Darksiders losing run will continue for a couple of more weeks before they right the ship in time to make the eight. Their early season form should see them finish around 6th and play the REBCats first week in the finals.

6. REBCats 30 (Poon, Lions, MOSQUITOES, Beeners)

The inconsistent REBCats won’t win all three of Poon, Lions and MOSQUITOES but can win two and cling to a top eight spot and a knockout final.

7. Q Before You 28 (Hondo, Darksiders, Hawkeye, Ninjas)

I don’t reckon Q will beat Hondo and the Darksiders game is a toss of the coin but they should win at least two matches but. I think three is the more likely call. Q has a superior percentage to Darksiders already so if they catch him on wins they get to play eighth who I reckon will be Underdogs.

8. Spuds 28 (Corky, Underdogs, Hondo, Darksiders)

The Spuds have a shocking finish to the season and I reckon it is possible that they could lose the lot. Best chances for Spud are Underdogs and if that is the weakest link then you probably haven’t done enough against the lesser sides to make the eight. Nah, can’t have the Spuds I reckon.

9. Richo Richo Man 28 (Lions, MOSQUITOES, Beeners, Buddy)

I reckon Richo is just about done. If they can’t beat the Longwood Lions this week then it’s season over for Richo as his last two teams are against the ‘expansion’ franchises who have both had dominant seasons this year.

10. Underdogs 26 (Captain, Spuds, Corky, Squeakeroos)

I’m backing the Underdogs to steal eighth spot over the Captain in a real tight squeeze. For me the Captain has to win this week to be any chance and I reckon he might just get up. But after that the Captain has Hondo and Darksiders so they could both go 2-2 over the last month. If that happens, Gibbo plays finals.

11. Captain Who? 24 (Underdogs, Hondo, Darksiders, Hawkeye)

I’m thinking that the Captain’s brave run will finish just short and he’ll end up in Tiger territory, i.e. Ninth. For the Captain to make the eight he has to definitely beat Underdogs and find a way to triumph over Hondo or the Darksiders. Tough gig.

12. Squeakeroos DTC 20 (Cyril, Corky, Poon, Underdogs)

Like the Spuds, I reckon Squeaky is done. He might prove me wrong and salute against cyrilanddayleshow and or Poon but I’m not liking them against Cork In the Ocean or Underdogs.

13. Cyrilanddayleshow 18 (Squeakeroos, Poon, Lions, MOSQUITOES)

I can see quite a few teams going 2-2 in the next month and Cyril is one of them. Unlike some teams though, that won’t be enough for bloods to make the eight but relegation should be avoided.

14. Poon Army 16 (REBCats, Cyril, Squeakeroos, Lions)

Poon Army is performing better in recent weeks and I think they can win three of these matches but which three is the question. They have a good record against REBCats and have a very similar scoring rate so that one is fifty fifty. The last match against the Lions looks to be the deal breaker. Hammo needs to win all four and rely on other results to make it so they are an unlikely finalist at this stage.

15. MILLER MOSQUITOES 16 (Ninjas, Richo, REBCats, Cyril)

MILLERS have had their worst ever Hogg Premier season and needs to defeat The Ginger Ninjas or face relegation. The loser of that game is in real trouble although MILLERS other matches look a little easier so they might escape even if they do lose.

16. Hawkeye 16 (Beeners, Buddy, Q, Captain)

Hawkeye’s Premier League career is all but over when you look at this set of fixtures. I can’t see Woggy winning any of these games so he looks headed for Division I.

17. The Ginger Ninjas 14 (MOSQUITOES, Beeners, Richo, Q)

You couldn’t back the Ninjas against Has Been or Q Before You so they must win this week and maybe against Richo as well to avoid relegation. I reckon they’ll be relegated along with Hawkeye.

18. Longwood Lions 12 (Richo, REBCats, Cyril, Poon)

The Lions have a side good enough to avoid the drop but are only mathematical chances of making the finals due to the Spuds tough run. Like Poon, I can see them winning three matches but they could also lose three as well. If the good Lions turn up in the next month they’ll be in Premier League again next season.

REB Sez

1. Buddy Franklin 60
2. Hondo SCC 52
3. Cork in the Ocean 52
4. Has Been 52
5. Q Before You 40
6. Darksiders SCE 40
7. REBCats 38
8. Underdogs 34

Two massive games this week. MILLERS MOSQUITOES vs. Ginger Ninjas could decide which one survives the drop because I reckon the Lions can escape the cage. In a crucial finals defining match up, Captain Who must defeat Underdogs or the last three weeks could become academic.

Wowee. I watched Minson get tap after tap and cursed him for not getting actual possessions. To think, that in the end, I won my game by a solitary hitout.

Yeah far out before scaling I was two points behind then Libba and Minson get 3 more points on scaling and SJ stays the same!

In fairness you deserved the win because you had Pendles' VC score of 134 but seemed to get stuck with big Will as C. Was that unavoidable?

Simpson and Jack were my main villains.

This gets me back for an arsey win I had a few rounds ago.

Could have done the loophole, but Jed Bews became a late inclusion. I should have tried to lock it in on Saturday.

With Gary Ablett going down the teams that managed to successfully avoid copping Gazza as skipper, or better still don't have Gaz at all had the advantage. Squeakeroos have been copping it from not having Gaz all season but the little champ's injury means that all of a sudden Squeaky's season has life once again. Squeaky cleaned up Cyril and now they are one game outside of the top eight and don't have to burn a trade to replace Ablett.

Buddy Franklin pulled an absolute shocker on the weekend as the wheels well and truly fell off. The Darksiders didn't set the world on fire but managed to get the job done after Buddy could only manage 1880 in a spectacular fall from grace. There were plenty of close matches this weekend as carnage struck. Hondo and Q had a nailbiter with Q getting up by a single point which will go a long way towards Q making the finals and launching his title defence.

In a helpful result for the victorious Captain Who?, Spuds lost their match by a mere five points to Cork in the Ocean who are now back on top of the ladder in yet another close result during this round. Meanwhile, Poony sunk me with a last minute inclusion of Bontempeli instead of the sub McRae and this mean that instead of the draw it would have been, Poon saluted by 40 points.

Longwood Lions continued with their late season run and they have now clambered out of the relegation zone as Hawkeye and The Ginger Ninjas are now resembling lame ducks with three weeks to go.

Round 15 Previews

Round 15 Fixtures winners in bold

Squeakeroos DTC vs. Cork in the Ocean
cyrilanddayleshow vs. Poon Army
Spuds vs. Underdogs
REBCats vs. Longwood Lions
Captain Who? vs. Hondo SCC
Richo Richo Man vs. MILLER MOSQUITOES
Q Before You vs. Darksiders SCE
The Ginger Ninjas vs. Has Been
Buddy Franklin vs. Hawkeye

The Run Home

1. Cork in the Ocean 44 ( Squeakeroos, Underdogs, Hondo)

Corky are back on top after the ladder after Buddy Franklin’s inexplicable collapse last weekend. I’m backing Corky to win the next couple but fall short against Hondo in the last round.

2. Buddy Franklin 44 (Hawkeye, Ninjas, Richo)

Buddy fluffed their lines last week but can still win the Minor Premiership as their draw is easier than Corkys. Even if Corky wins all three Buddy might be able to bridge the percentage gap. Can’t see them pulling any more sub 2000 scores and they wouldn’t want to or they could cop an embarrassing loss to a bottom team.

3. Hondo SCC 40 (Captain, Spuds, Corky)

Hondo were pipped at the post last week but I’m tipping them to hit back against the Captain. Hondo still has a tough run to the finish but surely they win at least one to get the double chance. A loss this week and that double chance spot is in jeopardy.

4. Has Been 40 ( The Ginger Ninjas, Richo, REBCats)

Everything is going to plan for Has Been and they should easily account for non-contenders Ginger Ninjas this week. You’d expect them to salute against mid table competition in the last two games as well.

5. Darksiders SCE 36 (Q, Captain, Spuds)

The Darksiders hit back strongly last week but there is something irresistible about Q right now. Might be that new Cologne that he has been wearing all year. The Captain and Spuds aren’t walk up wins for Reuben either but they look finals bound.

6. Q Before You 32 (Darksiders, Hawkeye, Ninjas)

A massive one point win against the fancied Hondo SCC last week has set up Q’s title defence. Another crucial match against Darksiders this week before a gentle run to the finals where Q can preserve some trades. If Hondo slips up Q is the side in the best position to steal his top four spot with some percentage builders to come.

7. REBCats 30 (Lions, MOSQUITOES, Beeners)

After getting rolled by the Poon Army last week, the REBCats probably need to beat the Lions to make the finals. The REBCats should get the job done against the MOSQUITOES but I won’t be banking on sneaking into the eight against Has Been who flogged me in Hogg Elite earlier this season.

8. Spuds 28 ( Underdogs, Hondo, Darksiders)

Spuds nearly scored a vital win which would have shut out a few of the lower ranked teams on this finals preview but they fell just short. I can see this scenario becoming a familiar theme for Spuds but they are not without a chance against Underdogs.

9. Captain Who? 28 (Hondo, Darksiders, Hawkeye)

Captain Who saluted against Underdogs as predicted last week and they will have to be at their best to score a win in the next two weeks against Hondo and Darksiders. I reckon the Captain needs to win one of the next two games at least to make the eight so it will be all hands on deck for the 2012 premier.

10. Richo Richo Man 28 (MOSQUITOES, Beeners, Buddy)

Richo is heading in the wrong direction after another loss and will be keen to put the MOSQUITOES alive to remain in contention for the finals. Richo is another team that has a couple of very tough matches to come after that so if they don’t beat the Mozzy’s it’s all over for the Birthday Boy.

11. Underdogs 26 (Spuds, Corky, Squeakeroos)

I’ve been rating the Underdogs all year and now it is time to deliver. If the Doggies can’t beat the Spuds it is just about game over for Gibbo in the Premier League this season. I reckon they can get over the line and I still like them for eighth even though I don’t expect the Underdogs to beat Corky.

12. Squeakeroos DTC 24 (Corky, Poon, Underdogs)

Squeaky didn’t have Ablett and took advantage last week. Cyril was a bit unlucky as any team in the league would have struggled with Squeaky last week. The challenge for the Squeakeroos is to maintain the rage now that Ablett has been replaced by the opposition. Even though they proved me wrong last week, I will repeat my prediction for a second time. No more wins for Squeakeroos.

13. Poon Army 20 (Cyril, Squeakeroos, Lions)

Without a doubt Poony is the sneakiest and arsiest coach in the Hogg. He didn’t even know who Bontempelli was when he selected him and that move was made with about 90 seconds remaining on the clock. This makes him a dangerous opponent. Rockliff is out for Poon but Cyril will be missing Goddard so Poony can keep that winning run going.

14. MILLER MOSQUITOES 20 (Richo, REBCats, Cyril)

The first part of the equation has been realised with the MOSQUITOES taking out Ginge and it looks like they’ve avoided relegation. MILLER’s destiny is in their own hands and they can stay alive by beating teams above them on the ladder. If they can win their next two they might have to defeat cyrilanddayleshow to make the eight but that kind of consistency has eluded MILLERS so far this season.

15. Cyrilanddayleshow 18 (Poon, Lions, MOSQUITOES)

Cyril has had a very poor season this year with not a lot going right for them. When you name your team over a homesick kid who goes back to WA without playing a game it’s not a good omen. I reckon one more win for bloods this year but he’ll have to wait for the last game to get that.

16. Longwood Lions 16 (REBCats, Cyril, Poon)

The Lions clambered out of the relegation zone but are one loss away from missing the finals. The Lions’ toughest test in the next three games is against the REBCats but the Poon Army are no pushovers either (unlike Cyril LOL).

17. Hawkeye 16 ( Buddy, Q, Captain)

Yes Hawkeye are mathematically in with a chance to make the eight. Unlike Longwood Lions though, they aren’t playing well enough and their run home is horrendous. Buddy will put Woggy out of his misery this week.

8. Underdogs 34

Spuds won a cracking match against Underdogs by 6 points this week to hang on to their top eight spot for another week. This result shut the door cyrilanddayleshow who had one of their best wins of the season against Poon...too late she cried. The season is also over for Longwood Lions and Hawkeye as well and the final two weeks will be all about avoiding relegation for those sides now.

One team who is hanging on grimly is MILLER MOSQUITOES who have won half of their six matches in the past five weeks. They kept their season alive after they defeated a struggling Richo who looks less and less like a finalist with every passing week. Captain who had their winning run halted by Hondo who are showing some ominous form of late.

The top sides of the Premier League flexed their muscles a bit this week with the top five sides all winning their matches. The REBCats, Q Before You and Spuds haven't secured their top eight spots yet but the top five are in the finals in season 2014. Underdogs loss to Spuds means that Captain Who might get another chance as the Dogs just aren't getting the job done in Premier League this season.

Round 16 Previews

Round 16 Fixtures winners in bold

Poon Army vs. Squeakeroos DTC
Cork in the Ocean vs. Underdogs
cyrilanddayleshow vs. Longwood Lions
Spuds vs. Hondo SCC
REBCats vs. MILLER MOSQUITOES
Captain Who? vs. Darksiders SCE
Richo Richo vs. Has Been
Q Before You vs. Hawkeye
The Ginger Ninjas vs. Buddy Franklin

The Run Home

1. Cork in the Ocean 48 ( Underdogs, Hondo)

No problemo for Corky last week. They even got an unexpected percentage boost as Squeaky had a real shocker. Second spot for them I reckon with a likely finals match up against Hondo.

2. Buddy Franklin 48 (Ninjas, Richo)

Normal services were resumed last week for Buddy as they overhauled Woggy late to eventually record a comfortable victory. I reckon the Buddster can get the Minor Premiership and play his first Premier League final against fellow newcomer Has Been.

3. Hondo SCC 44 (Spuds, Corky)

Hondo cracked 2500 against the Captain and looks to be a side capable of heavy scoring on a regular basis. Buddy is one step ahead so Hondo won’t get top spot but will face a tricky first up final against Corky who has looked the goods this season.

4. Has Been 44 (Richo, REBCats)

Probably another two wins for the Beeners, there haven’t been any nasty results for this side in recent weeks. Will face Buddy when August comes.

5. Darksiders SCE 40(Captain, Spuds)

The Darkside knocked off Q last week to book their finals place and they are in a good position to shape the eight from here. It looks like the Captain and Spuds are fighting it out for that last spot in the eight and Darksiders plays both. They’ll play one or the other you would think in their Elimination Final.

6. REBCats 34 ( MOSQUITOES, Beeners)

The Cats need one more win to make the eight and the MOSQUITOES look to be the more likely candidate. Should be able to conjure one more win over the next two rounds to return to finals action with a match up with Q looming.

7. Q Before You 32 (Hawkeye, Ninjas)

Q have got the hard ones out of the way and now face the two sides who look like being relegated from Premier League this season. Q has the trades to make an impact in the finals with his most likely Elimination Final opponent being the REBCats.

8. Spuds 32 ( Hondo, Darksiders)

Spuds’ victory over the Underdogs have shunted a few teams out of the door and if they can upset a rampant Hondo it will be curtains for Underdogs, MILLER MOSQUITOES and Squeakeroos DTC as well. I’ve been tipping against Matt for weeks and would like to give him the nod but that is a very tough couple of fixtures to finish the season. I reckon he might miss the eight on percentage.

9. Captain Who? 28 (Darksiders, Hawkeye)

The Captain’s winning run came to an end against Hondo but they still managed a very credible score which is important with percentage looming as a decisive factor for them. A win over Darksiders would just about seal the deal and that clash will be a very close one which I can see the Darksiders just winning. Even if the Captain gets done I think he can make up the percentage to sneak into the eight in the last round. It would be a fair comeback if he manages to do that.

10. Richo Richo Man 28 (Beeners, Buddy)

Richo is as cooked as Collingwood and faces two top four teams in the run home. Richo would need to win both to make the eight but I reckon they’ll drop them both. Too bad CoverKing isn’t in the relegation zone because he only ever seems to do any good against me (and Hondo).

11. Underdogs 26 (Corky, Squeakeroos)

The bookies have jumped off the Dogs after they failed to peel the Spuds last week and now they need to beat the top team in order to make the finals. Gibbo’s season has spluttered like an old Vauxhall in recent weeks and Corky will put the Dogs in the Doghouse this week.

12. MILLER MOSQUITOES 24 (REBCats, Cyril)

Port Adelaide aren’t the only team to adopt a popular tune as a theme. The MILLER MOSQUITOES have taken to playing the Bee Gees staying alive as they take the field and the team has responded with a couple of fighting victories. They finish the season against REBCats and cyrilanddayleshow so they would be underdogs in both. Surely playing in such tight shorts has to restrict them sooner or later.

13. Squeakeroos DTC 24 (Poon, Underdogs)

The Squeakeroos once promising season is about to end at the hands of teams who won’t make the eight if last week’s disaster is anything to go by. In round 14 they caught out cyril when Ablett went down but this advantage proved to be shortlived. Last week the Squeakys had a heap of outs and their score plummeted. I can’t see them beating Poony and as result it’s Hasta La Vista Squeak.

REB Sez

1. Buddy Franklin 56
2. Cork in the Ocean 52
3. Hondo 52
4. Has Been 52
5. Darksiders SCE 48
6. Q Before You 40
7. REBCats 38
8. Captain Who? 32

cyrilanddayleshow look to be in awesome scoring form but it's all to late for them in the Premier League after Spud knocked off Underdogs by 6. MILLERS are somehow still surviving after looking like a relegation candidate so not a walk up for me this week with no Sandi. The biggest game of the week is between former champions Captain Who and Darksiders. If the Captain gets the chocolates this week he could be playing off against the same opponent in the Elimination Final so he'd be a confident Captain going into that match if it occured.

Regards,

REB

Darkside either has no trades left or he is copping it on the chin this week.

I thought the same last week. I played him in the Elite League and thought he was either all out or saving one last trade for the right time.
