They don't.
It does show that everyone is on the same page though.
Mate when we use to play you blokes back in the SAFA days we would watch your boys rock up 15mins before the main game.
Looks like the narrow minded thinking still exists down there.
Would Div 5 be the highest your club has been?

We only introduced slacks/shoes in 2011, mainy because the players looked like a rabble when they rocked up. Some in club singlet, some in jeans, some in thongs, some in trackies, it looked crap. We needed a change

I can distinctly remember when i first saw Brahma Lodge in black slacks and their hoodies or polos. I thought they looked professional and united. They also played like it.

Its a simple discipline, looks good and it shows that your club is striving to climb the divisions and play as good as the big boys, not just look like them..

Um. Am I the only one not struggling with the logic here?

beeroclock wrote:It does show that everyone is on the same page though.
Err. How so? You just mentioned a very successful club, well respected, lots of premierships, great coach etc etc.

Also no need for business attire at the football.

Hmmm.

Take the leap man, take it! You can do it! I Promise the gap aint that big!

beeroclock wrote:Mate when we use to play you blokes back in the SAFA days we would watch your boys rock up 15mins before the main game.
Did you now? Well that is lovely.

Relevance to this discussion being?

If you want to start having cracks about professionalism and what not, maybe "beeroclock" isn't the best moniker. ;)

beeroclock wrote:Looks like the narrow minded thinking still exists down there.
Actually we tried a business slacks rule. How do you think I know how annoying it is? Interviewing other players at rival clubs or something?

It clearly didn't work because hey, we're still in D6.

beeroclock wrote:Would Div 5 be the highest your club has been?
As I said, success in amateur football is about:

Talent – players which can get the ball, kick it accurately, mark it, kick goals, defend and read the play.
Structure – each of the key positions along the spine are filled adequately FB to FF. Good balance in the midfield between offence and defence etc
Depth – Are there players who can step up not if you get injuries but when.
Luck – self explanatory.

And to a certain extent fitness, but I think that’s overrated too, but it does increase in importance the higher you go.

Sadly, money is now also a factor.

The factors keeping Mitchell Park in D6 have been a lack of talent, structure, depth, luck, fitness and money. The cause of this dearth is geography, demographics, public relations and misguided off field administration.

Saying us not wearing business slacks as an indication of narrow minded thinking and therefore a reason why were in D6 is a bit like saying the no umbrella rule at AAMI stadium causes brain tumors.

We're in Div 2 and have been since Sheff coached us to the Divvy 3 flag in 2009. We had a tough season this year though.

professionalism is important, I do agree.

I don't agree wearing slacks enforces, enhances, improves or in any way affects said professionalism within a club.

That's my point, not that professionalism isn't important or a factor.

scottroo wrote:maybe mitchell park should try it ;)
We did. Hence my opinion on it.

I think we had the worst season in our history. But hey didn't we all look snazzy.

I liked Wayne Wylds approach actually, wear whatever you think is comfortable, but remember you are representing your club, so perhaps no boardshorts, tank tops and get a club polo at least.

A club polo and tidy jeans are fine and should meet the professional image required of a modern day amateur league football club.

ah, now this is a different argument and IS one I think can help a team.

But you can do it much better ways. I really like the way the Red Sox have all grown beards since pre-season. Its something which can be used to unite and bond, a cause outside of the sport to get behind and support.

Beards >>>> Black Slacks.

So if were after impressing people (I mean really? I though we were playing a game of football to win, and have fun) guys should be encouraged to wear things that suit their body type, gait and sense of fashion.[/quote]

So your okay with MP wearing TuTu's :)

Zedman are u serious that a coach can not take players i laugh at that comment like stealing money is ur example well the police better be called in i must be breaking the law.
And when you do not have an understanding of my role one bit at TOS, i am a coach there maybe not the A grade coach but i am Scotts off field coach an assistant last time i checked it is still coaching, The best thing with Scott and TOS is they want to build a gr8 team of coaches and hopefully it works for some gr8 results for the club.
And your comment that as coach i should be present at every event the club does, they did not pay that much for me to put my whole life on hold i honoured my contract to what was put on paper.

But i do luv the can worms open in the discussion about slacks i never stated on here i dont agree or agree i gave option to the playing group, but if the club enforced as club uniform, well then you should do it. But when clubs just make A grade players do it and reserve players get to where no slacks is that fair.

I've never left a club and taken players. Had the odd one ask to come and sought approval from the club and I have ALWAYS attended ALL club functions regardless of cost. It's a gimme. You take on the role and you abide by the club rules. Leadership reflects attitude captain. :D
