Adelaide Supporter Jumps Ship

Postby Blue Boy » Thu Dec 06, 2007 11:43 am

Some one I know has just informed us they are dropping the Crows and go and barrack for Collingwood

I am really @ a loss ( even though I am a little frustrated with them @ the moment )

He has a real good mate who has black and white running through his veins ( Port Magpies and Collingwood ) who has turned him - probably over alot of beer.

Should we try and get him back or let him go Magpie land and give him alot of stick for a real long time.
It is what it is !!!

ride it out till when he realises that they are a bunch of morons and wants to jump back on. then inform him that he has lost too many teeth to be considered a supporter of the club.

Bleu Boy,
I can think of nothing worse than changing teams.

I have supported North Adelaide my whole life.

VFL was a different matter for me, as I got to choose my own club- I started off with the Swans (Red & White/Dennis Carroll), Essendon (because I ended up with a Bombers flag), WCE & Brisbane Bears (in their 1st years), before settling on Collingwood (at the age of 13)- since then, I have never looked back.
I was never a die-hard supporter of any VFL club, until I came to Collingwood.
Even now, I'm not an AFL die-hard, but would not consider changing clubs in the current environment.
The only change I would make, would be to continue supporting NA in the AFL if it ever happened.

Dont bother trying to change his mind. It is not worth it IMO.

Unless he is under twelve which i highly doubt then dont bother. Cant think of anything worse than changing teams.

God he's like me or used to be .... Roosters & Crows

If he's even considering jumping ship then I reckon he was never fully signed on anyway so let him go IMO

When I was young & difficult I refused to give my dad the satisfaction of knowing I supported North like he did so went through Port  and then South before finally admitting I supported the Roosters

In the VFL I never had any passionate support for any 1 team even though I followed the comp so the SANFL's 1st representative team was a no-brainer for me

Agreed.
I was a swinger* under 12 in the VFL, but have set sail on the good ship Collingwood, & intend to be tied to her mast o'er all 7 seas*!

The best part about picking a team is not doing it.Get it?

Having a generation (or 2) before you support a team and not even give you chance to follow someone else is a treat.

All of our kids (hopefully) because of our passion have the same thing to pass onto thier children.

Its a good point you raise Booney

Its amusing to hear some of the SANFL supporters who have proudly 'made their own decision / didn't jump on a bandwagon' and picked their old VFL team over the Crows or Power ......

And then turn around and brainwash their kids about who to support  (son, its important not to jump on a bandwagon ..... unless the bandwagon is the team I want you to support)

PS Don't worry - I'll be trying the brain-washing thing on my 7 month old son when the time is right

As a child I supported Sturt because my older sister hated blue - I was born a stirring man.

I could now only imagine swapping from the Crows if Norwood bought out a failing licensee in the AFL - that though would only be reverting to an older loyalty, not jumping ship.
