While there is nothing wrong with guys winning grade 8 flags but when you are portraying yourself as a good cricketer that tells me you were hunting some GLORY!!
sports follower mate i played div 8 last year and tried my best to win it with my team mates but we got smashed in the semi final....just makes you wonder what enjoyment teams and players that are way above what grade they are in really get out of it hey....i mean i would love to play in the high grades against the really good players but unfortunately my and my teams ability is why we play div 8 lol....
Howzat if you read the post I am not having a crack at anyone who plays grade 8 if that is their level of cricket but I was having a go at F2F for trying to get dropped in grades so he could chase the grade 8 flag. I am having a go at these "warriors" who play way under their ability to glory hint a premiership. We have a grade 8 team and I don't redicule them as that is the level they are capable of playing but most push themselves to try and play higher.
Ive had arguments over the value of runs/wickets in lower grades with my brother a 'few' years ago when he was playing grade 2 and i was playing grade 6... His point was "I got mine in a higher grade so theyre worth more" .... my point was "you play against people of the same ability as you so every run and every wicket is of the same value in any grade" ... I played a game or 2 in grade 8 a couple of seasons ago, and in one, took a few wickets.... personally I didnt find any glory in doing so as I see myself as better than a grade 8 player. I dont understand the mentality of blokes that chase trophies in grades below their ability level. Surely theres no personal value in it....

hey sports follower i wasnt having a crack at you either mate just following on what you were saying about glory hunters and ability as i said i never really understood why guys want to play in grades they know they will smash teams in....we had some good close games in div 8 but also some absolute floggings lol....to me a good game is a game where the two teams playing each other at least have a chance at winning otherwise whats the point really...but as you say there are good cricket players that will drop down to chase a flag knowing full well they shouldnt really be there....hope i made that more clear mate....

The only counter argument to that is when you have sides in the same division but some are clubs b grade and others c and d grades, then their is an argument that your not playing against people at your same ability.
Keeping people of all abilites playing cricket is an absolute must for all clubs therefore a teams c's and d's ARE just as important as a clubs A grade but in saying that i do rate the 50 i hit in grade 1 higher than the hundred i hit in grade 3 for example.
We copped abit of sledging last season about having our A Grade in grade 3 and that the premiership should mean sweet FA to us because we 'should' have won it. But realisitcally the club had fallen to grade 3 due to poor performance the seasons before, none of the blokes who played in the GF side were Div1 recruits and everyone who played in the GF side would have played at least 50-100 junior/season games of cricket for the club.

try to get dropped? wow thats a new one. if only u were a fly on the wall at our club when i was selected in that grade 8 side. infact if only u were a fly on the wall all season at our club that year then perhaps your opinions would be different. or these arent really ur opinions at all, just comments to try get a bite
Blockbuster in round 1 in grade 1 Rose & Crown v Salisbury West. Interestingly we play Angle Vale at Angle Vale in the last match of the year for the second year running.
Eastern Park have an internal trial today at 12:30, if any players are still looking for a club feel free to come down and take a look, same as anyone who is just bored and wants to watch some competitive cricket, not sure if bar facilites will be open.

i think you may have contradicted yourself slightly in the highlighted sections mate.... Ur point about dropping to grade 3 through poor performances is exactly the point I made to my brother. If youre in grade 3, or grade 8, youre there because you werent/arent good enough to play higher.

Tips will be for the top 5 grades this season, we'll leave the 1 day comp alone. It looks like Salisbury North have scrapped their grade 4 side forcing Elizabeth East up from grade 5.

yeah will be having a structured game not sure overs probably looking at 30, bring a white shirt might get a hit mate if we end up short on numbers.
Looked like good numbers there today, WHUFC. On the sidelines and on the field. Nearly popped in to see if you were there. Thought better of it, seeing as I'd have had to ask if anyone knew WHUFC.
By the way, I will get around to a story for the cricket website soon. If you haven't seen it yet, it's www.wickettowicket.com. au
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

I'm pretty impressed with grade 3, 7 B Grade sides, can't get much more even than that. Our C's have a bye in round 1, going to make a tough selection process, no doubt we'll have every man and his dog out on Thursday.
