Played at Barossa Valley Golf Club on Monday…

Lovely course like the layout… my brief reflection on my game and the course…
Please note I am currently playing off 12.1 , however this is an old handicap as I am only playing less than 10 times a year and don’t get to play in comps, so the handicap just sits there. Should be playing off about 18 but never mind

Anyway onto the course.

Fairways - very nice
Anything off the fairway - bare and sandy
Greens - soft as butter left in the sun and have clearly suffered due to the heat and looks like it has had disease run through them. Every green was damaged and in really terrible shape.

My game:

Driver wayward - and with the rough being bare and sandy made the round difficult.
Iron play solid to good
Sand recoveries good
Putting - happy with considering the greens, didn’t make any long putts but didn’t miss any short ones.

All in all, a frustrating day (28 points) but good to be out with some of the boys from work.

That's a bugger about the greens. They were really good when I was there last year.

Club Mandalay -Fri 18/04/25

Got in on the $89 deal two players in a shared cart. Bargain.

A bit of wind about which usually makes Mandalay a tough assignment. Pretty dry out there, some fairways running quicker than the greens.

Par secured on gentle opening hole. My 3 wood off the tee catching the down slope off the bunker and ran on another 60 I reckon.

Normal service resumed on the 2nd where a triple was recorded. From there despite making what felt like decent swings, just kept finding trouble. The course is littered with bunkers, and I found most of them on the front 9. My mate Simon was having a good day, piping drives and getting out of bunkers without issue.

The back 9 plays a bit more into the wind. Stealth continually mis behaving (or could it be operator error?) so hardly a fairway hit until I got it sorted on 18.

The highlight of the back 9 for me was cracking a tin on the 11th tee, at 11am. Followed by a Good Friday pie, from the food cart!

Simon played some steady golf to clean me up by 4 shots. We have the rematch Anzac Day at Crazyburn, I’m looking to square up!

Flaggy this morning
Decent shower before the round and again around hole 6.
Just enough to wet the gear.
The 3w was horrible off the tee. Ended up having to choke down and play it middle/back in stance to just make some contact.
Putting ok.
27pts

Desperation.
Put driver and baffler in the bag.
Then once at golf I had a brainwave and switched the shafts over.
On the first, a driver head on baffler shaft and just a poor strike pushed it into trees.
Outside of that, didn't really lose any distance on those I hit properly  and kept me in the game

Just looks strange.
3w behaved today.
32pts and wiped 17th.

Mt osmond

Start with bogey, after having to punch through the trees on the left.
Then onto the 2nd. Left the 6i short. Handy chip on... 3 putt.
Greens were quicker than last week.
The Par 3s, all bar the 16th (birdie) just killed me... wiped.
3 birdies helped salvage the round.
Despite the 3 putt struggles on the par 3s and in first 5 holes, finished with 30 putts
33 pts
The Driver was solid. Only one poor slice, but that was user error.
Short game was solid

Course condition?

Course was good. Better than February. But like all places needs some rain
Bunkers are enjoyable to play out of.
Removed a bunker on front right of the 12th green.
They have hole 11 closed as they are working on 12th tee... for about the 5th time according to lads this morning  and they say it's gonna be more dangerous
So 18a and 18b are in play

Ventured to Dutchys home ground this morning

Greens are quick, and took a while to adjust.

For the most part played well.
3w off the tee was solid all day.
Irons were solid.
Putting was so so.
Course still in good condition given the circumstances.
Still enjoy the course and how it plays very linksy.

32pts
Made a mess of 10
Greenside and pin high off tee.
Then a chip n run....that didn't stop.... down the slope. Chunked a chip up the hill and then grabbed putter and got to it before it could roll back
14 was a highlight. Landed back of the green and flag at the front... sunk the birdie. Possibly longest putt on the course, maybe 4th could equal it.

No joy today.
28pts was enough to knock off my mate by 1... it all came down the the last hole  I get bragging rights for a few days.

Looked up my GA and the adjusted gross figure for my holidays and it was 1005.
At it again tomorrow and Sunday thaxted.

Not sure what happened today.
Started on 10th.
First tee shot straight into trees, punched out for bogey.
3w off the tee outside of that and the 6th was really good.
The 60° went back in this morning and did its job.
Around the greens chip n runs were pretty good... chipped in from Swale on 16 for birdie
20pts after 9.
Then started well on back 9.
Get to the 7th, strong breeze, flag up the front only 136m. Took 7w to make sure it was getting over. Cleared the bunker on the left but it fell back down off the slope. At this stage I'm 35pts. This and the 8th to go. So full of confidence I get into the bunker, assess the situation and chipped out backwards towards fairway. Just gets out. Pw up and 1 putt.

38pts and 80 off the stick
