Re: Ben Warren and Norwood part company!
FORMER Crows recruiting boss James Fantasia is returning to day-to-day football as Norwood’s new chief executive.
Fantasia will take charge of the SANFL Redlegs from Monday, replacing retiring chief executive Geoff Baynes.
Baynes leaves The Parade on Friday after planning his exit with a succession plan in the past six months.
Fantasia — an unsuccessful candidate for the SA Football Commission earlier this year — will be back in daily football operations for the first time since he had to leave AFL club Hawthorn in 2013 with ill health.
His resume not only includes significant AFL portfolios at the Adelaide and Western Bulldogs and a senior role in the SANFL administration, but also major business and commercial acumen and study. He also is a former Norwood and Woodville league player.
Fantasia’s appointment marks the first of two significant changes in SANFL club football administration. West Adelaide also is to have a change with John Kantilaftas to leave the Bloods to join Surf Life Saving SA.
Baynes retires from Norwood five seasons after he arrived at The Parade in an interim role. He has overseen one of the most successful periods in Redlegs’ history, both on and off the field — including premierships in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Baynes also has led the Norwood administration to finding financial security — and to setting up the new clubhouse that will be built at Norwood Oval in the next 18 months.
Norwood president Paul Di Iulio today praised Baynes’ off-field command of the Redlegs and took delight in gaining Fantasia’s experience at The Parade.
“We are especially appreciative of the pivotal role Geoff played during our triple premiership years,” Di Iulio said. “The board is confident Geoff has chosen a time to relinquish his position when the club is in a strong position to again challenge for the premiership and at a time when the club is about to enter a new phase of its development with a significant upgrade in its facilities.
Baynes will remain a consultant to the Redlegs. Norwood will formally acknowledge Baynes’ contribution to its club at the best-and-fairest count at the National Wine Centre next Friday

Heard Warren on the radio tonight saying he feels that Norwood and Sanfl should just be a feeder club/competition.

No shit? If true then WAFDH!
No wonder Norwood began turning to shit if that was the philosophy behind his thinking. Didn't Rehn treat West the same way?
Apologies if I have jumped the gun here, I just realised that I have taken MT 79 at his word without any checking of my own to back it up.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Big difference between the words "could become" and "should become".

Yep. Saying 'should become' is worse.

Correct. I was talking to Dugga at training a few weeks ago and we both agreed the way the SANFL is being run atm we "COULD" become a feeder league.

I'd think we've been a feeder league for a number of years.

Hardly a revelation, is it?
Name the last young player in the SANFL who has not nominated for the AFL draft?
Name the last player who did not leave the SANFL despite being drafted?

Re: Ben Warren and Norwood part company!
Who is leading the race to get the Norwood job?
Is it likely to be a first time coach to the league or will a former coach be returning?
