Really don’t want to be rude but they’re such dumb comments.
With that mindset we may as well have no rules, regs, policies in place.
You would hope majority of clubs would abide by the parameters expected of them.. if you need to spend more than $3,500 per week on players then you got problems anyway.
Of course clubs will work around it, of course some clubs might completely disregard.. but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try and implement stuff.
Anyway I’m bored of this discussion I was fair intoxicated when I posted it last night haha!
Greenacres for the flag.

Players were getting paid in the 70's in the Hills.Littlelegs wrote:the first time i heard people got paid for footy was against Torrens valley when Gary Hughes was running the show.
I was shocked at the amount and at 18 felt good about beating a guy who was on $700 a week, didn't make me any richer but definitely gave the hecklers on the side line some ammunition.
Wouldnt players at a club know whether guys are worth the $ based on performance and expect better output from the big $$ makers, is that what causes guys to grab and go and only play one year before the next bidding war over summer.

Well then the answer is dont have a salary cap.carey wrote:The above points are all mute points.
The league can implement any rules or systems they want, there has always been and always will be 'Brown Paper Bag Deals' and clubs rorting the system, if any of you think this doesn't happen you really need to get your heads out of the sand.
And I know full well some of you on here are complete hypocrites!

Some people will always drink drive and get away with it so why have drink driving laws?
Some people will always speed and get away with it so why have speed limits?
Some people get away with murder, should we still prohibit that?

Glitch in AFL Live 2004 wasn't it - commentators would do pre-game predications.. one would say they're going for say Port Adelaide.. the other would say they disagree, they're going for... The Power

I think we want as many clubs surviving as possible and the honest answer these days is finding volunteers to make up committees is such a hard task neverminded finding people who are capable of spending/managing and understanding the financials behind paying players.
Rightly or wrongly i think administration does have a responsibility to help clubs from themselves.

Re: 2026 Adelaide Footy League - Division 5
I tend to agree, my initial instinct is to let the market figure it out, but while it's imperfect i tend to think it's generally achieving its objectives.
To take D1 as the benchmark of the Ad FL since 2016 when the salary cap was introduced 6 different clubs have won a flag in 10 years with Port Districts and PAOC winning three a piece. Also of those premiers all but Port Districts have spent time in D2 subsequent to their winning a flag.
Might be a correlation/causation thing, but seems to be having some effect.

Re: 2026 Adelaide Footy League - Division 5
If you let it become uncontrolled then at some stage you get the ATO beginning to ask questions. It’s hard enough to find volunteers as it is and imagine if you told clubs that you’d have to answer to the ato on top of current scenario’s. You’d shut the doors on a truck load of clubs because it gets too hard.
If you also throw caps out the door and payments run riot you’re at some stage inviting organised crime syndicates to get involved as a way of shifting money and assets or use it as a platform of gambling. That’s extreme, however It’s happened in other codes and you’d be a fool to think it wouldn’t happen at some stage if left completely uncontrolled.

On another note. Who do greenacres beat in the grand final? I like Woody South personally.

At face value, this looks one of the weakest seasons of D5 in a long time.

and one thing i've learned is that never under-estimate D5- we all know anything can happen in this division and often does.
The other thing is - dont get sucked in by October premiers.
It's the quiet ones you need to watch out for.

Re: 2026 Adelaide Footy League - Division 5
This is true.. I guess the standard may appear lower also at face value in October - but we don't know what clubs are doing behind the scenes + weaker depth doesn't mean less even competition.Footy Chick wrote:and one thing i've learned is that never under-estimate D5- we all know anything can happen in this division and often does
Still, Greenacres for me the benchmark - they were close last year and seem to have strengthened further.. and Woody Sth were humming along nicely back half of last year.
Kenilworth are historically competitive in D5, and SMOSH wont want to stay long on their first visit this low.
Portland had their moments last year - and did beat the premiers - only side to do so... Eastern Park may lose a few, but they're always hard to beat at home.
