Didn't they return to D6 the next year, and win the flag?

Yes there was, but as it turned out it was either us or them that went down because of other results

That was a weird ass day, as North Haven had to win to get a home final and from memory they lost to Luthies.
There were a couple of other really bizarre results too,
I reckon West Croydon was involved in one of them
I can't remember 10 minutes ago so Im surprised I can remember this. Someone may want to post the scores of the day to see how far off I was

The old saafl website had a wealth of info, I can't find the season that I referring to on the new one. 2005 seems to be ringing a bell though.

Smithfield absolutely belted Ingle Farm in round 9 that year which proved to be the turning point of their season. Didn't lose another game for the season. The prelim final was played in torrential rain...hence the low score. That was day Adelaide Oval was under water

I remember playing a semi back home in 2005 under water. That was the year that the whale floated down the torrens (

Re: CH9AFL Division 5, 2016
That prelim final day was absolutely unbelievable with the amount of rain. We played a home final at Kenilworth and we had dead set lower shin deep water levels on the ground at the start of the reserves. It takes a lot of rain to do that at St. Mary's Park. I'd hate to see how some other grounds looked!
Can you bring a man to his feet when defeat is on repeat?

Correct. Chris Kellett was the coach and every Tuesday from that Smithfield game to the finals we had a full blown scratch match. Old school tactics that worked a treat. Great coach
Success is not final; failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts....

Considering they pushed hard to be in Div 4 maybe it's not that surprising.
