Could understand it (sort of) if you batting middle or middle and leg and hung the bat there
Yep, plays too many “nothing” shots just to have contact with the ball.

on this subject I dont really have an opinion
Last night was prob OK - coz if BOLAND gets out thats the end of the days play

But it did work
Jake Weatherald ends up batting at 3 instead of opening, and made his highest test score batting at 3
He was Scott BATTAND last night

His making a point of trying to be more proactive in his return to the side and rotate the strike more. Do you think his mistaking that for having to have bat on ball and playing nothing shots when he should be leaving????

He left more balls when he was at his peak.

I get that that it’s plain to see why he is doing it

But if you adjust your guard to cover that there is no need to hang your bat there as you’ve changed your set up. Change your stance like he did means you can proactively leave that ball

If he was on a more traditional guard and it’s on a 4th stump line you can understand why he played at it.

That makes one of us, I’m hating myself right now. I took a carton with me, polished that off and ended up hooking into some random Cruisers til they ran out.

If he isn’t opening he shouldn’t be in the side IMO
They have pretty much guaranteed him a farewell game in Sydney though
