Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Re: Australian Domestic Season 2024/25
It's been obvious for at least the last 5 years that curators around Australia have been instructed to produce more sporting pitches that are basically guaranteed to get results but it's simply getting out of hand now.
I know cricket is a game where results can naturally be very variable and they cant always relate directly to the pitch but something clearly isn't right in the West remembering that early in the Season WA lost 8/1 and were rolled for 53 in a 1 day match against Tassie.
Great result for the Redbacks (I dont GAF if thats what they're not known as now)
They're shortening by the minute to play in the Final
I'm like everyone else that find it hard to see them winning with the problems with the batting order but if curators keep dishing these pitches up it may just not matter ?

TBH the pitch wasnt horrid from what i saw. it was bouncy but not doing too much out the oridinary.
Lehmann had in his head it was getting finished that over. i dont hate it because IF he connected we would be praising his positive play. looks ugly when it doesnt come off.

South Australia in winning consecutive Shield matches, have done it by winning off the last possible ball of the match (vs Tasmania) and now the shortest ever in terms of balls bowled for an outright win:

NSW 5/69 in their second innings, need 349 runs to win.
Konstas the top scorer with 22.
Victoria 3/60 in their second innings, need 210 runs to win.

Re: Australian Domestic Season 2024/25
Looking through the team lists for the shield sides and there doesn't seem to be a lot of name players, not compared to most years when you know of at least 75% of the teams players, is it that the domestic comp is considerably weaker?
I wonder where we stack up against the other domestic comps around the world, I remember when I was younger we were probably stronger than County cricket despite the big names that went over there from other countries.

Another aspect is that we have white ball and red ball players nowadays, back in the day most just played whatever game was going, there was really only Simon O'Donnell that was a specialist short game player for memory, the rest played both formats, even Tubby with his 67 off 132 balls.

Re: Australian Domestic Season 2024/25
The worst Australian state side would destroy pretty much all domestic FC/List A teams in every country, with our without international players.
I reckon we've got more batting depth in domestic cricket than we have in the last fifteen years (albeit nothing like c. 1995-2005), and bowlers who would slice county players into pieces on English decks.

Re: Australian Domestic Season 2024/25
Years ago our top 10 batters outside the test team world average 50.
Now there’s basically no one averaging 50 in FC cricket.
Career averages I mean
Are the bowlers better nowadays?
Pitches not as good for batting?
Why are batters only averaging 40 at best for their FC averages

Not completely true.
Yorkshire at full strength is a team and a half.
That side includes Root, Brook, Bairstow in their batting line up.
Other known names includes Adil Rashid, Dawid Malan, Dom Bess.
Thats not including thier overseas players
