Hasn't the rule or interpretation changed so the player has to make a genuine attempt to keep it in?
At least it's a bit easier to rule upon than deliberate and a step in the right direction but still not as good as the last touch rule IMHO.

You are on the money I think, was one paid last night and the umpire said exactly that , you didnt make a genuine attempt to keep it in, cant wait to see that interpretation at a boundary throw in when the ruckman smashes it straight back out

That was a ridiculous call .. Spoils the best forward the game has seen in the last 10 years and gets pinged IA, no win situation for the lad.

Semantics I know, but theoretically shouldn't he same principle apply to players who allow it to go out in order to claim the free kick given sometimes they could have also kept the ball in play?

Umpire said that last night with one decision. "You could've picked it up" to the appealing player.
Just on that topic, I'm seeing a lot of players (Buddy's a shocker) throwing arms out and begging for free kicks.
He's not gonna change his decision Bud, save your energy and maybe train once in a while ;)

Yep, why would anyone boo a champion. More to the point why boo a guy who played in 3 flags (I. Smith) for you club and has been a great servant to the club. Baffles me.

IMO Booing shows how intelligent people are.

Dont mind a bit of booing for the sake of theatre, but I'd never do it personally and especially not to champions. Signs not great for the home side early.

Slick ball movement from the Tigers, they just have more composure than Port early.

Disregarding how well he plays, I think its great to see Lachie Jones mullet at AFL level haha.

But he rightly gave Motlop a spray as his kick out of defence was a shocker, straight to Tigers player who kicks to Martin. DBJ should not have even been in that position!
