Last year, says ASADA's register, three Queensland amateur rugby players were caught in possession of, using and/or trafficking peptide, and suspended for two to four years.
ASADA makes no allowance for the unsuspecting. ''Athletes are responsible for any substance found in their body,'' said an addendum to a release last year. ''There have been cases where … athletes have been sanctioned after they have used supplements that they thought were OK, but which were actually contaminated with prohibited substances.'
there's a few dodgy supplement companies out there. there was a supplement recently banned from australia as it contained traces of yohimbine in it. there's been cases in american where products have contained steroids.

Not as simple as that Notso, what about the contracts all these players would now have with their current clubs wether it be SANFL, WAFL or amateurs? Not sure that get out clauses would apply at this time of the year

That is why they should be forced to use their VFL squad.....
I really believe this will all be settled behind the scenes. A lot of chest beating and assorted BS will go out through various media, Essendon will be chastised, some players will cop a bit of public humiliation and so on. Then one round one, Hirdy's Bombers will hit the track - business as usual.

What do you know about peptide injections Q?
Not much.
Amino acids basically. My guess is they were being injected to stimulate specific hormonal production for recovery purposes. Not sure on the legality of such a practice either.

Thats what they said on the news this morning. The injection sped up production of certain hormones, yadda yadda. Apparently its hard to detect in a drug test. They can only look for extremely elevated levels of certain hormones. Im pretty sure it would be looked at the same way as Armstrongs blood transfusions. They were done to increase the white blood cell count, which helped with recovery it think.

Peptide injections would be unlikely to elevate hormone levels above set limits, which makes it expecially hard to detect.

Would this then mean that the AFL would have to let Essendon draft up to 25 players to fill its list for the coming season? How would this go with guys that are contratced to SANFL clubs etc? If they dont do this what happens to the other 15 or so guys on their list? Do they allow each other club one draft pick from this pool and fold Essendon up
Essendon have a reserves team in the VFL? They should be forced to use those players even though they may not be up to AFL standard.
That would be the fairest thing for the rest of Australia but we know the AFL doesnt care about any other level of football. Think it goes with out saying that Essendon would be playing for no points for 2 years, basically they only play to fulfill the Tv rights deal
This wont happen. The AFL have no say in it. If WADA give 2 year bans to the players then they are not allowed to play any football at any level. We would have to use VFL players and draft in replacements
Spike McVeighs interview on SEN was fairly intense. Reckons they were injecting Vitamin B and C only. Said the waivers were crap also, reckons they were consent forms that the players instigated and they wouldnt sign until ASADA signed off on the supplements used. Also basically accused Reimers of being and lying c**t and being unproffesional. Dont know if the club is trying to put on a brave face but Watson also said he cant wait for ASADA to go through the joint. Gerard Healy was on 3AW backpeddling a million miles an hour. I still think there is more to it, investigation could take months

Jackson O'Brien's get out clause was pretty effective.

You don't sack 2 people and crawl to the AFL for taking vitamins.
For every one I miss I am closer to a hole in one.
The Herald Sun can reveal at least two other Melbourne-based clubs are known to have taken their players to special locations for what they termed "vitamin boosts".
The players were told they were receiving vitamin B or C injections straight into the bloodstream.
It is also believed at least one interstate club has followed similar procedures and even led the way in "cutting edge" medical practices with their players.
There is widespread speculation in the football world that the supplement at the centre of the Essendon drugs scandal is the peptide GHRP-6, which promotes muscle growth and thus has similar properties to human growth hormone.
