Round 12 BLOCKBUSTER: Centrals v Glenelg @ Elizabeth

Postby Big Phil » Sun Jun 15, 2008 6:38 pm

I thought I would start this topic up seeing as though there is a bit of conversation about this cracker of a game over on another post...

Here's the link to the other posts on this game, continue your discussions from here on in...

I reckon this is easily the blockbuster game of the year to date and could quite possibly be a little prelude to this years Grand Final ???

I think one of the keys for Centrals, if they want to win the game, is to quell the influence of Trev Cranston at the centre clearnaces, who is no doubt in career best from. I reckon Buckets Mackenzie just needs to crash and bash into him as much as he can and hopefullt tire him out. Quite clearly, The Bays midfield is their power so if you can curb the influence of their big man, and abviosuly win enough of the ball ourselves, we are a good chance to win the game.

It is quite possible that the Doggies could be bolstered by the return of up to 3 of their AFL listed players with Brad Symes looking to come back from his ankle injury, Justin Westhoff a realistic chance to be dropped by the Power after another average performance today and Ryan Williams, who was a late withdrawal from the South game last week, possibly coming back into the side. There are also plenty of other selection options for Roy Larid and his match comittee with Luis Hadden, Luke Cowan, James Moss and Earl Shaw all consistantly performing in the reserves.

Like I mentioned on the other thread, I think this will be an absolute rip snorter of a game and cant wait for next Saturday to come quickly enough. Hopefully the weather stays fine so we can see the best of both sides and they put on a good show for the ABC TV coverage. Reckon there should be a crowd of 5,000 at least. Mt tip, although not confident, Centrals by 1 - 12 points

GO U DOGGIES...

i'm looking forward to this one. As i said in another thread catch the 6.55am flight out of brisbane, stop over in sydney and in adelaide just after 11, the old man picks us up then its straight out to elizabeth. I'm intrigued to see how our running side will go on the vast space's of elizabeth. To those of you who post on here and follow central's make sure you come* over and say g'day.

I think having Justin Westhoff come back into the side, if he does get dropped from the Power, will be a good thing for us as I think we have needed to play the 2 tall forwards as opposed to just Dan Havelberg. This will mean we can afford a bit more flexibility with Daniel Havelberg sending him down back if needed, while Westy can play full forward. I have felt ALL year that Centrals are 1 tall defender short and althoug we have managed to get away with it for most of the season, our 2 loses have come when we've played sides with 3 or 4 quality medium to tall forwards, teams in Sturt and Glenelg.

Nathan Grima's brother was pretty good for the Tiges earlier in the year when we played them at the Bay and gave Havelberg a bit of trouble so if he plays, I would have Daniel Schell on Todd. Versatile Andrew Hayes would probably take say Roury Kirkby and leave Yves Sibenaler to play on Matthew Duldig. Cameron Faulkner, IMO, is the best match up for Justin McConnell while Havelberg can go down into defence if needed. I'm looking forward to a few of the midfield battles, in particular Backwell v Thomas, if it eventuates. Jmaes Gowans v Adam Fisher will be a good one as will the battle of the rucks with Buckets Mackenzie and probably Jon Giles taking on in form Trev Cranston.

Would be a nice bonus if Westhoff does get dropped but reckon we will be better served if Brad Symes does play for us. Think he will be a huge bonus for our midfield and can go to a hlaf back flank as well if needed. I'd love for the Crows to drop Griffin, would be good to help combat Trev Cranston but don't think it will happen. My biggest wish for Saturday is of course a Doggies win, but secondly I hope we have none of these men officiating in the league game: Tony Dey, Toby Medlin, Tony Dey or all of our favourite, Colin Rowston... Ideally, I wouldn't mind the older, wiser heads of Richard Williams, Tim Pfieffer and maybe say Sam Hay. Like I said earlier, should be a bumper crowd, would hope for even 6,000+ with okay weather forecast, 17 and cloudy. Again, Centrals by 1 - 12 points...

GO U DOGGIES...

i think its a very good chance because Grif has had a tough time of it lately and i think that Maric has gone a head of him in the pecking order, also tippett has also just hit a road block in his short career.
so i am thinking the crows will drop Griffin pick Gill or Hentchel, both look ready for AFL after there performances on the weekend but i think gill should play first. and play them up forward and have tippett second ruckman and a pinch hitter up forward.

From the reports I've heard of both Griffin and Westhoff, their impacts on their team's performance have been well noted by their respective coaches, so I don't expect either player to line up for Centrals this week.

What's the latest on the Gowans, Callinan and Symes injuries? My understanding was that all 3 would be at least one more week away, hence missing this match.
