Reckon you might be right. They clearly dont want him to miss the GF if Crows can get there

Is that because they don’t him singing Snoop Dogg songs at halftime?

They can get Rankine to sing with him at half time?

Should be 5 but we've already seen the conditioning from the AFL that this is only going to be 3 so he can play the grand final.

He didn't self report
Self reporting has to be on the same day initiated by the player
There was contact made between the two clubs on Sunday that forced them to report it
The AFL are going to get absolutely roasted if anything less than 5 games

So; yes they will give 3.

Jack Graham fessed up a week after saying it but your point remains it wasn't Rankine who came forward.

I'm wrong, but in my defence, it is what I read somewhere in the past couple of days.

They have 2 weeks now: https://www.afl.com.au/news/563080/afl- ... le-rule-35

There will be hell to pay if they change the penalty guidelines mid year

For sure - change it for the new season but those already done before Rankine should be fukn $hitty

The AFL will be even more of a laughing stock than they are now

This is so stupid it's probably right!

Does the AFL do suspended sentences?

I recall they might suspend portions of fines, but I can't think off the top of my head recent examples with respect to matches.

Irrespective of where you sit with what you think is worse, words or violence, if the AFL to come out and all of a sudden justify suspending a portion of matches just to let him play the GF, would be even more hypocritical than they normally are.
"We take this matter super seriously, unless it's a grand final, then we are happy to ignore it."
They'd be far better off coming out and saying huge bans aren't addressing the issue, so we are going to take a different path, returning to more reasonable length bans, and increasing education requirements.

you think this is the first time the AFL might go lenient on a suspension with a GF on the line?

Of course not, but just come out with 3 then, rather than 5 but we'll suspend two.

Happens not just with grand finals, but also major awards.

They are either trying to help Rankine out with still playing in a GF if we can qualify, or there are other factors in play that they are taking into consideration that will reduce the suspension otherwise it would be done by now
