100% this. I remember watching D6 a few years ago when Elizabeth ran riot, guys like Terry Milera were certainly D1 quality, but the number of these blokes per team was the difference.morell wrote:Ah yeh the old whats the standard equivalent to endless debate
Facts are it changes and is highly variable even within the division. Elizabeth are about as good a side as I've seen in D7 for many years, they'd smoke every D7 Premier over the last 5-6 years given an equal playing field. Heck I reckon they'd be top or close to it in D6.
Some years D7 would be way stronger than C1, there would be occasions where a C1 side would be more than competitive. Does drop away though. We would've fielded sides last year in the As and even at the start of this year that would struggle to kick a score in C1.
Its also usually depth that is the problem, not the better players, what is true for the individual is not true for the group.

Tea Tree Gully were in Div 7 with there C and D grades in 2018. They finished 4th, 11 and 7, and then won the elimination final.Off The Wall wrote:They'd rather stay in the C comp, not having to play against sides that recruit. Last time the bigger clubs ran in the 7's it wasnt great. Tho the standard probably closer now, than it was back then. The Bedge wrote:I'd rather see the powerful D/E grade sides play D7 like the old days.AdelaideSaint73 wrote:I'd rather see Div 6 and Div 7 both with 9 teams and a bye, to play a 16 game season across 18 weeks and finish in line with everyone else. Golden Grove C6 would win D7.
Golden Grove, PAOC, Henley, Adel Uni.
Or pair up and have a mix of D grade sides in D7 and D7R i.e. Golden Grove from C6 to D7, PAOC from C7 to D7R
2018
Golden Grove finished 8th, with a 4/14 record (Had no other C Grade sides)
2017
Uni 6th 8/10 (Had C1 & C6 sides)
PAOC 10th forfeited after a 0/9 record, so went to C3's and finished 5th (also had a C1 side)
2016
Unley 6th 7/9 (Had no other C Grade sides)
PAOC 2nd 12/4 lost GF (Had a C3 side)

Do you think a Div 7 side could beat a Div 3R side?morell wrote:Ah yeh the old whats the standard equivalent to endless debate

There are some serious players running around in reserves of div 1-3.

Absolutely. Especially if the ressie side is full of kids and the D7 side is solid and experienced. Heck the debate used to be could a D7 side beat a D1R side.
Just depends on so many variables.
I'm finding more and more that it's less about people underestimating D7 and more that people overestimate the quality of the middle divs. The amount of Div 3/4/5 people that think they're god's gift to football and must be just short of fielding an AFL side is hilarious.

Used to be Div 5 side to beat a Div 1R, I just dropped it by two each genre.morell wrote:Could they?Lightning McQueen wrote:Do you think a Div 7 side could beat a Div 3R side?morell wrote:Ah yeh the old whats the standard equivalent to endless debate

Interesting take on Elizabeth, they have an impressive list of names, the McConnell brothers are very handy ruckmen and around the field.

Top 3 in C1 (SHOC, Districts & PAOC) have plenty of ex Div 1 blokes running around the parkHack wrote:I said to some people a while ago that I thought C1 was equivalent standard to D7. Got laughed at.
Sounds like a few people here agree.
PAOC has 8 - 10 ex Div 1 players in the past 3 years
We used to play our Cs & Ds in D6/R OR D7/R but Ds & Es is probably a stretch
I think all D1 clubs like the A/B/C on the same day

Yeah I think the triple headers are really good. Certainly brings a vibe when the C’s and B’s teams stick around to support the A’s.Jimmy_041 wrote:Top 3 in C1 (SHOC, Districts & PAOC) have plenty of ex Div 1 blokes running around the parkHack wrote:I said to some people a while ago that I thought C1 was equivalent standard to D7. MPFC with two teams in finals. By the skin of our teeth
Pretty proud of that effort to be honest. Very young squad with huge potential.

In answer to the query on C & D grade teams coming into D7. TTG in C7 have finished top with their D grade. Understand an experienced team so for those who played them how would they compete v D7 and/or D7R?

If they lose next week, would be the biggest choke of all time (can't see anything but 10 goal+ win)

Division 7 - 2026
1. Adelaide Lutheran - wow their B grade will love this div!
2. West Croydon
3. Hackham
4. Mitchell Park
5. Mawson Lakes
6. Flinders Uni
7. Smithfield
8. Brahma Lodge / Central United
Well I think Adel Luth and West Croydon would be hard teams to beat dropping down a div - although they lost comfortably this year, they had some talent, and Luthies have a lot of depth. Hackham + the loser of the prelim would obviously start early favourites.
Smithfield sorry, struggling to see where the improvement is coming from unless they can get a big influx of players.
Flinders Uni time to shine must surely be here...
