I'll be in Antarctica, celebrating with my new penguin friends
Every time I go there, I say never again. I don't hate the joint but I don't like itCorona Man wrote:Bali… 50 days, but who’s counting down…. Much.

When we went in 2023, we ran into a lady and her daughter from Darwin. She goes to Bali 3-4 times a year because it is so close and cheap, and takes one of her three kids with her each time and leaves the hubby at home with the other two cause he hates it there.Booney wrote:A mate and his Mrs go every year, once a year, for 5 nights. They stay at the same fully inclusive resort and barely leave other than some beach walks and dinner on the beach. I can see why they do it given the costs but as far as tourist things go I'm up for somewhere else.
Been to Bali once, but Thailand a heap of times for work. I prefer Thailand every time.Corona Man wrote:I’m going over with a very open mind. I don’t want to be comparing Bali to say, Thailand. What’s better etc.
It’s just a week or so out of the cold Melbourne winter. Eat, drink relax.
Thailand is miles better but the closeness of Bali to Australia holds the most appeal as many just head over for a week or less and Thailand is just that little bit further which turns some off.MW wrote:Been to Bali once, but Thailand a heap of times for work. 6 hour flight to Bali, 9 hour flight to Thailand. Watch 1 more movie, no biggy. We have been to Thailand 4 times, so it’s a change of scenery really.Jim05 wrote:Thailand is miles better but the closeness of Bali to Australia holds the most appeal as many just head over for a week or less and Thailand is just that little bit further which turns some off.MW wrote:Been to Bali once, but Thailand a heap of times for work. We have been over a dozen times but Perth based work colleagues go over 3-4 times per year and even go there on long weekends for 2-3 days
You can fly back from Bali during the daylight hours, massive win for mine as I hate the over nighters.Corona Man wrote: 6 hour flight to Bali, 9 hour flight to Thailand. Watch 1 more movie, no biggy. We have been to Thailand 4 times, so it’s a change of scenery really.
Yeah, we have an overnighter on the way home from Bali. Not a fan, but I used some points, so had to take what was on offer.Booney wrote:You can fly back from Bali during the daylight hours, massive win for mine as I hate the over nighters.Corona Man wrote: 6 hour flight to Bali, 9 hour flight to Thailand. A fair while ago for most of those.DOC wrote:We did once have a direct flight to Bangkok but long gone now. Ditto Hong Kong, Narita and Christchurch
I'm heading over again in June, same deal, get away from the freezing cold to enjoy some heat.Corona Man wrote:I’m going over with a very open mind. I don’t want to be comparing Bali to say, Thailand. What’s better etc.

I have a mate (yes, I know) that lives in SA but works FIFO out of WA, his work flies him to and fro where he opts to go, he goes to Bali most of the time instead of coming back home, he even got his girlfriend a job at the same mines so they do it together.Jim05 wrote:Thailand is miles better but the closeness of Bali to Australia holds the most appeal as many just head over for a week or less and Thailand is just that little bit further which turns some off.

I loved it last time, will be a little more relaxed this time as I don't need to do a few of the things I did last time. Having a minor hiccup though, the GF is coming with me but I think we have parted ways, will make it a tad awkward but we will remain friends and have agreed to still go.
