How do you not get a touch in 3 quarters of football?

So you now cannot tackle from behind for fear of them falling forward with their arms pinned. Slowly slowly removing all methods to tackle or bump.

Even though it should have been 0, if he was given 1 at least you could make some sense of it. The whole grading system is a mess, not unlike a lot of other things at AFL house

Haven't been able to for some time now, unless you have the ability to be able to somehow manoeuvre the opponent around to cushion his blow and not cause an injury to the head.

Yes, they will both be obsoleted by 2040, the rucks won't be allowed to leave the ground for the ruck contests well before that too.

I don't agree with the rule but it's there, it's just an unfortunate part of the game that has been targeted for safety reasons.

The Tribunal will say Curtis should have done something else.

The player / club will ask what he should have done.

The AFL will also say 'these incidents don't happen ten times a game because players do something else'

They should put two velcro ribbons on each players shorts and two on each players guernsey, if the tackler is able to claim any two ribbons then it is deemed as holding the ball, that is much safer.

Well it was nice to see us competitive for 3 quarters on Saturday, can we deliver that more consistently will be the challenge, if we can then we will start winning games.

The over reaction about the umpires is so annoying as usual, the most critical one was missed with Willie illegally blocking Comben which resulted in the match sealing goal when we had momentum, but why focus on them? As I keep saying players make many many more mistakes which is well within the teams control. i.e. Larkey missing 3 sitters, Durrsma chosing to handball instead of kicking late in the game, SPP kicking into the man on the mark in the goal square, JHF elbowing Simpkin in the head giving away to 50m penalty/goal etc etc

The Curtis ban is predictable, as someone said, just come out and say it - if you concuss a player you will be getting a minimum of 3 weeks.

Curtis should have copped a week for his tackle last week so this should have never happened.

Having said that , arms pinned, drove his head into the deck (accident or not it still happened) = gone

Won't be long and the name of the game will be to not pin the arms and rather tackle for the purpose of creating a turnover from pressure rather than getting a holding the ball decision.

I missed the incident over the weekend, just watched now.

It's an illegal tackle to start with, in that it was ruled in the back.

Pinning of the arms and the faceplant add to it, given what we've seen this year it's clearly reportable.

True he gets a week off while Ben Keays kicks 4 goals and turns into prime Leigh Matthews :(

Didn't you guys get 4 goals from 50m penalties and another 2 from dubious frees in front of goal? The Wines one was disgraceful, there was some deadset shockers.

I didn't expect you guys to get so close, there's a lot to like about the group.

The issue isn't that it's reportable the issue is that this is deemed 3 weeks.

Houston jumped chose to bump and got 2, Connor Nash swings an arm knocks a guy out cold and gets 4 and an unfortunate outcome from a fast paced tackle is worth 3? I'm not even convinced it was Curtis getting into his back that caused the damage Sinn seems to whip forward mostly because of his knees digging into the turf. Hell Ginnivan kicks a bloke twice yesterday and will probably only get a fine for it or nothing.

If they slapped him with a week I think most would just move on, I wouldn't agree with it but the AFL make baffling decisions all the time, for it to be only able to be nothing or 3 weeks because of the outcome is what is the joke.

Penalising accidents harshly will do nothing to prevent them because they are accidents. Letting people off for deliberate acts, that could only be seen as trying to hurt someone, because they weren't able to actually hurt someone will also do nothing to prevent serious injury. The AFL have it backwards.
