He batted at 3, and Nathan Lyon batted at 4!
Both lost their wickets to the Kensi great…. J. Pannelli!

Why on earth would you want to move our most prolific run scorer away from his #5 spot?
Why would you put Marsh back in there?
I can understand the love for Boland but we won't go in with 2 quicks, last time we went there, over the two tests we bowled 82 overs of pace vs 183 overs of spin, the last time we played on the sub-continent we only played one recognized quick.
Boland is redundant over there, the nagging length that he bowls here won't have the same affect in their conditions, just won't get the carry.
Head I think is better suited to pace early and will be most effective as opener in sub-continent conditions.
Marsh I tossed up with - was thinking maybe McSweeney back in at 5, but Marsh is proven, can get quick runs against spin, can bowl some overs of medium pace and having just been dropped, might play with a freedom that sees him back in to his AB Medal form.
Boland I’ve gone with because he’s just taken 21 Test wickets at 13 over the last few weeks. He’s in hot form and Cummins is most likely unavailable and Hazlewood questionable re injury.

Yeah, it seems like Boland will go over as our 2nd quick but I'm not sold that he'll play, I'm thinking they'll use Webster as the alternative quick for the little amount of overs that pace will be used. Boland might be selected for the Galle test I think.

Hazelwood has been ruled out of the Sri Lankan series. Cummins is already ruled out.
Richardson isn't going to be part of the squad, he'll get injured getting off the plane.
I doubt there will be massive changes to the batting line up. I would expect it to be unchanged. What I'm not sure about is the 2nd Specialist seamer or a 3rd spinner.

Re: Australian International Summer 2024/25
Konstas insists all he said to Bumrah was that Khawaja was not ready to face up, but admits in hindsight he shouldn’t have got involved from the non-striker’s end.
“I feel like I love being in the contest and trying to put my best foot forward,” Konstas said.
“I feel like it’s probably a good learning for me. I was trying to waste a little bit of time there so they didn’t get another over. But he (Bumrah) had the last laugh.
“Obviously he is world class and he took, what, 32 wickets in the series.
“If that happened again, maybe I wouldn’t have said anything.”

Falling LBW to J.Panelli has even happened to me! Took consolation walking off that far better batters than me also suffered the same fate.Corona Man wrote:Dutchy wrote:Only learnt recently that Root played at Prospect CC for a year,

Root was here 2009/10 in the golden era of the Darren Lehmann Academy when the County clubs would send their 23 and under future stars out for the summer.

I feel like they'll go with a 2nd specialist seamer, use Webster as the 3rd quick and play 2 specialist spinners with Head to roll the arm over if needed for a couple.
That's been the formula the last couple of tours (Cummins, Starc, Lyon, Swepson + T Head) and (Starc, Hazlewood, Lyon, Holland + M Marsh).
Not convinced they'll go Boland though - he seems suited to the Aussie pitches.. and I wonder if maybe a Sean Abbott might get a run, or someone left field like Fergus O'Neill

Maybe the Wild Thing and go with sheer pace, FWIW, I'd go Kuhnemann over Potter.
Abbott or Neser could well be considered as it will be a series where runs will be the key, we'll need to bat as low as possible.

I think Kuhnemann definitely over Murphy - cant have both Lyon and Murphy in the same side, need a point of difference.

Marsh is a proven failure. I can think of no other Test player who has a Test batting average of 29 and a Test bowling average of 40 after playing 46 tests. He may be a good bloke and team man, but so was Mal and he sure as hell wasn't getting a test game.

Average of 19.56 (20.08 away from home) against spin too, he's never been successful against spin in test cricket.

Not that I love him.. but Left arm OS as opposed to Lyon RAOS.
No real decent leg spinners getting around (Swepson maybe?)
Rocchiccioli and Murphy are both RAOS so are outsiders until Lyon steps aside.

Can we get some love for Kurtis Patterson though - feel like he's a hard luck story.. 527 @ 105 this year.. 2x innings at Test level for 144 runs - never seen again.
Feel like apart from last year, he's been making consistent runs for a long time.
