Re: Australian International Summer 2024/25
Good old Ronnie has more spin than Lyon.
Reckons Marsh is up and about but would like a better output with the bat and says that him being bowled sparingly in the first 4 tests was tactical.
You couldn’t make this shit up

Re: Australian International Summer 2024/25
Brendan Doggett was included in the Test Squad as cover Hazelwood for the Adelaide test (30 yo 41 FC games 140 odd wickets at 28) so he appears to be in the frame.
I think Starc and hazelwood will play in next years ASHES but not all the tests. Starc at 35 next provided he still has his pace will be looking at one last series.
I think Jim has a good team but we are looking potentially at 4 SA boys in the team can we afford that??
My team for the first test based on current form
- Konstas
- Hunt/Kellaway
- Labaschagne (3 x 50s in his last three tests means he's still getting picked)
- Smith
- Head
- Green
- Carey
- Cummins
- Starc
- 1 of Hazelwood, Richardson Doggett Boland
- Lyon
My only rider is that the likes of Labaschagne, Boland, Hazelwood, Lyon and to a lesser extent Starc dont have time on their side
Then the likes of Murphy, Rocachelli, McSweeny, Patterson, Richardson Doggett and O'Neil could easily be in too.
All will be revealed in Sri Lanka and the Caribbean.

You can take Marsh but I'm not giving you Traviswhufc wrote:We often criticise the selectors but in the aftermath of this test they got it pretty right.
Konstas- Everyone will remember his first innings forever; will he make it as a test cricketer....who knows but for one innings he was the only batsmen that was able to get on top of the possibly the worlds greatest ever bowler. His innings was the platform that set up the score of 450 plus.
Marsh- Primary role was as a batter and he failed that.... but a couple of extremely good and very important catches meant he had a minor impact. Bowled 10 overs for the test at 3 an over, probably is the limit of what would be expected with the ball from the batting allrounder Webster. Marsh needs to go undoubtedly but like Head whilst he failed in one role he was able to get involved in others.

CC
The threats to OZ are obviously IN and EG
We gotta harness a team that can compete well in India
The type is a middle order batsman with flair
For that player to provide a finger spinning option
That player for me is Cooper Connolly
He is young, confident , and oozes natural ability
If he develops his finger spin , I think he is a real good long term player for OZ
Take him to SL should be a priority- to gain exposure on spinning decks
CC is a star

He got found out? Didn't he just get a very good delivery from a great bowler? There's no shame in that right? I think you're looking into his second innings dismissal a bit too much.Lightning McQueen wrote: Konstas got found out, he has some great hand-eye co-ordination but he got lucky that hew was able to skip away to 30 odd without anyone realizing, you hit the nail on the head with one of your comments about how will he go in the 2nd dig, they clogged his hitting zones up and there wasn't a plan B.

I quite possible am, time will tell. The lad likes to bat with flair and risk, he wasn't afforded that luxury in the 2nd dig as the fielders were in his zones. The Dark Knight wrote:He got found out? Hopefully he has a patient side to him as I would love to see him be the next best thing.
I had my all my kids and their partners with me as we met at my house for brunch before going to a family function on Boxing Day, we weren't leaving while he was batting, I was in total awe of what he was producing, it was all everyone was talking about at the family show, even the ones that don't follow the cricket that much.

People forget that he is only 30, I know I expected him to be older, he has definitely got a B for this series after a poor start, like him or not we need him moving forward for the next 3-4 years. The Dark Knight wrote:Labuschagne doesn't have time on his side? My bad, for the first time in 20 years on this site I'm prepared to say I'm wrong...Lightning McQueen wrote:People forget that he is only 30, I know I expected him to be older, he has definitely got a B for this series after a poor start, like him or not we need him moving forward for the next 3-4 years. The Dark Knight wrote: Labuschagne doesn't have time on his side? I knew that as he's younger than Patterson who has had a good return to Shield cricket but u yes Labuschagne does have another good five years of Test cricket in him if he starts to get back to converting those 50s into tons. He could well play the solid anchor role at 3 where others can bat around him a la Pujara, Dravid, Boon and Langer (1998-2001).

I reckon Abbott, as much for his batting and home ground knowledge. Got to make it as hard as possible for India to take 20 wickets.Brodlach wrote:I’m doubting Starc plays Friday, who plays in his spot?

Re: Australian International Summer 2024/25
I reckon Abbott gets the nod and well deserved for everything he has been through
Richardson would be tempting but maybe a bit risky without a genuine fifth bowler
Abbott could also be earmarked for the Sri Lanka tour, play the 2 spinners with Cummins and Starc. Bat Carey at 6 and Abbott at 7 especially given how well Pat is batting at 8.
