From WAFC
“The West Adelaide Football Club is devastated to announce that current player, Sam May, has sustained life-altering injuries in an off-field accident in Port Lincoln over the weekend. The club is supporting Sam and his family during this very difficult period.
A powerful, strong player around the contest, Sam made his debut with West Adelaide on Sunday July 21st, 2019 and his presence on the field has always been immediate.
He has played 35 League games across 5 seasons with the club and has always been an integral part of our community – both on and off-field. We know that all within our community will continue to support Sam and his family during this time.
Whilst we understand that many members will be eager to assist or know more, out of respect for Sam and his family, no further information will be made public.”
President - Emma Grigson
The family have requested that the following message be shared amongst the West Adelaide Football community.
"We are truly grateful for the incredible care our beautiful boy received in Port Lincoln, being transferred to Adelaide and now in the RAH. He has been blessed to be surrounded by such caring, clever people. Our special thanks also to club doctor Megan Deakin, who was one of the first responders in assisting Sam. We are forever grateful that his loyal Westies family and the beautiful Heard family were by his side.
Sammy is the light of our lives and we absolutely love and adore him as does everyone who is lucky enough to meet him. As awful and as difficult it is, we just need to wait now.
Your love, strength and prayers for our Sammy are appreciated beyond measure. We have always been so incredibly proud of Sammy, for all that he has achieved and the fabulous young man he is; he's always been such an inspiration.
We all know he has the heart of a lion and an amazingly brave spirit. He will be doing everything he can to get back to his best.
Sincere thanks and much love".
