Ban accepted.

Society these days is just sitting back waiting to be enraged about something.

Finlayson f@#ked up, no doubt about it, whilst i dont think theres much in it and things like this are said far more than what people think, i get the fact it is not accepted in this day and age as people can now identify as 296 different genders. He will face a punishment, but some of the suggestions are absolutely ridiculous.

Yeah i accept that it's not and should not be accepted to use someone sexuality as a derogatory term. As a father of a daughter who chooses to partner with females i would hate to think her sexuality would be used to make her feel inadequate.

However Jeremy Finlayson is in his late 20's he was probably on the end of an era where words such as gay and the one Clarkson used were still in many of our vocabularies right from our school days. He made a slip of tongue in the heat of the moment. Imo what shows just as much about his character was that he was able to realise what he said he straight away and despite being in the heat of the game was able to process that it was wrong and then even further understand that there and then was the best time to own up to his mistake.

Thats what we need from society to move forward, make the mistake, own it, learn and don't repeat. Eventually as the next generation come through those mistakes will become less and less over time.

Think you'll find it is as prevalent today as it ever was
regarding the apology, the Essendon players heard it and were openly telling the umpire. Yes he apologised after the gme but lets not knight him for doing it so quickly.

Let’s not hang him either.

His wife has terminal cancer FFS, let’s get some perspective.

I’d be amazed if there is a single person on this site who has never said the words uttered by Clarkson or Finlayson.

Let him suffer whatever the court of public opinion will deliver and let it be.

Last time I looked we had freedom of speech. And before some people start having a go at me, I was incessantly racially vilified when I was young, even with racist taunts that had nothing to do with my heritage.

There shouldn’t be any difference between racial and sexual taunts.

I can't see any difference between Clarkson's and Finlaysons penalties.
The later duly fessed up straight away so a little credit due. He knew he'd get dobbed on anyway.
Why should he get suspended just cause he's a player.

Is UK Fan actually from the UK? Reckon he'd like faggots, I tried them once but nearly threw up. Terrible dish.

LOL, and here lies the problem. Yep, it has another meaning.

Can't believe I'm about to say this, but kudos to Vamos for pulling off a highly intellectual retort, I didn’t think he had it in him.

Agree however I would be surprised if anyone here has said it in the last 15 years.

Lets not forget footballers live in a different world, absolutely no excuse, but they are miles from a "normal" upbringing.

I would suggest he will get off lighter than Tex as he put his hand up straight away.

Perhaps it was how old Tom used to describe Essendon's efforts, in the days before the motorised vehicle?

Is he being penalised because he used a slang term for gay?
Or is he being penalised for saying out loud he is gay but in a derogatory fashion?
Would he be in trouble if he had called him gay?

The call for reduced penalty because he spoke up "straight away" is rubbish.
Essendon players heard it, called him out on the field and made the umpire aware. He had no choice but to report it to the club at the break.
