0/2 #-o

and your Day 2 predictions ;)

1) The runs will flow today.
First session won't be an explosion, but after lunch is when the pace will really pick up.
The day 2 runs tally will be at least 25% higher than day 1.

2) The Aussies won't declare.
In their efforts to get to the golf course by the weekend, they'll drop wickets regularly enough that their first innings this test will come to a natural close (either late today or before lunch tomorrow), rather than a declaration.

The other talking point for mine, Travis.
Averaging 19.67 over his last 9 innings, with no 50s.
Has he overcome his ODI world cup hangover yet? Or is he still partying?
A flattening, day 2 Adelaide Oval pitch against a lacklustre West Indian attack, is this the easy time to get back in form, or will the lack of challenge fail to inspire our man Heady, who seems to save his best performances for the matches that actually matter?

Completely stumped (no pun) as to why we played until 5:30pm so I looked into it. I'd been watching on and off during the day at work but didn't see much of the afternoon session. They took the extra 30 minutes at tea as the Windies were 9 down, the last session was still 2 hours so the "extra" 30 minutes saw the 5:30pm finish.

I slept. Wouldn't have otherwise.

Had the over rate been better such that the 90 overs were bowled by 5pm, then the last session would have only been 1h:30min and stumps would have been called at 5pm as scheduled.

The extra 30 mins before tea is unrelated to the extra 30 minutes added at the end of the day.

I tried to explain that to someone last night, they couldn’t grasp that.

Wait, when do they ever play extra minutes to get the overs in? Only 83 overs were bowled.

I get how slow over rates are silly and the fact their for change of gloves etc.

Realistically though does it change your viewing experience much whether its 90 overs or 86 overs.

I mean if it wasnt for the over counter on the tv screen or the scoreboard i could never tell you how many overs have been bowled or whether they are going fast or not.

I not like footy where there is a noticeable difference between a free flowing game versus one with lots of ball ups etc.

I would like it to get back to 90 overs a day but i hardly think its going to be a game changer for test cricket, seriously a 12 year old kid would rather watching 20 overs of aggressive batting than care whether it was 84 or 90 overs in a day. For mine the issue in test cricket is the quality not the quantity, 2 game series, tests vs minnows who are so far behind the good sides, defensive field settings and long periods of short pitched rubbish to 7 fielders on the leg side, quality of pitches etc.

I again make the points that:
1. If I pay to watch 90 overs, I would like to watch 90 overs.
2. If we're OK with 86 overs, are we OK with 82? 78? 70 overs in a day's play?

For more than one hundred years of test cricket, they didn't have trouble getting the overs. As Fred 'The Demon' Spofforth said, "Boys, this thing can be done". Obviously, that requires batsmen to do the right thing as well as the fielding side.
