Raising awareness means governments are more likely to act.
Also helps sway people to educate themselves more on the matter.
Would have been the same reason the Palestinians started this latest crisis.
I know I now know a hell of a lot more aware of what has been happening and I have become very sympathetic to the Palestinians and less so for the Jews.

There’s little out government can do besides assist with aid.

Interesting final line, can you please enlighten me as to why Hamas invaded Southern Israel despite knowing there was going to be retaliation and being severely undermanned?

Unfortunately Hamas have somewhat succeeded already.

Of course they knew that Israel would hit them with everything, and they have. Hamas are so depraved that they have no issue with thousands of Palestinian deaths in Gaza to further their warped cause.

On October 7, most people were 100% with Israel as news of the atrocities committed by Hamas surfaced, but knowing that Israel would flatten Gaza, sympathy for the Palestinians has increased significantly since.

Hamas are hoping that their actions have cemented opposition to the Israelis, firstly in the surrounding arabs states, and as a bonus, around the world. They hope that this will result in further uprising against the Israelis.

Palestinians are faarked either way. They can’t denounce Hamas as they hold power in Gaza, but Hamas don’t give a faark for their welfare. Basically no-one else will come to their assistance, so Israel will do as they please in Gaza.

Israel don’t have a plan after they flatten Gaza, so we’re all back to where we started.

It’s completely faarked with no tangible solution in sight.

To bring attention to the Jews constantly encroaching on their sites, treating them like 3rd class people and virtually committing ethnic cleansing and treating them very similarly to the way Jews were treated leading up to WW2. If they didn't do something the Jews would just completely overrun them.
For eg Jeruselum was supposed to remain a neutral site under the agreement the Jews agreed to in 1947 but they've completely overrun it and claim it as their capital, they're constantly demoloshing Palestinian towns and settling in the West Bank, they won't stop until either they take over 100% and completely eradicate Palestinians.
A religion should never have been given their own country in the first place but that's another story as the Poms wanted to wash their hands of the area (and the Jews) and the UN acted under outside pressures.

IMO to provoke a response from Israel to be used as a tool to leverage the West to sanction Israel over perceived over reaction in response. Hamas are pigs, pure and simple. Wish I could find the link to where one of the chief pigs remarked that "revolution requires sacrifice" in regard to civilian casualties. Not his sacrifice of course, he'll be happily sitting in Doha or wherever counting his billions while the average Palestinian is dying on his behalf. Peta Credlin nailed it when she wrote that Hamas "consiously armour themselves with the flesh of their own people".
People like to point to Israel and bleat about the Geneva Convention, Hamas as a terrorist organisation has no protection via the GA and even if they did, the militarisation of a hospital again pulls that rug out from under them. The taking of hostages and their use as shields is also prohibited but apparently the only atrocities come from the Israeli side.

Edit: Pig.

Whilst I'm not disagreeing with you, Tony Abbott's lapdog and a Jewish newspaper are probably not where I'd go if I was looking for a non biased commentary.

Why is it that after a packet of crumpets is opened and two crumpets removed, the packet is no longer able to fully wrap the remaining crumpets?

My Saturday morning is normally a walk to the IGA, grab the paper and a packet of crumpets. Weekly I lament at this very fact, I took two out and now I can't wrap 4, WTF has happened here?
