Cricket wickets will remain which is not ideal from a football perspective but a few ovals are in the same boat.

My view is that the cricket wicket should go as it is only the C's and D's that use it from Sturt DCC.

Maybe cricket should go, but it's not easy to find available ovals. I think the Council anyways recently decided to renew the lease with the cricket club.
Perhaps if the cricket had a good look at their options, they might find another venue. But there is no incentive to do that.

Concerns about a cricket wicket are real but think the dog walkers of Unley should be stopped from allowing Rex and Fifi to defecate on the new DPP surface…

I agree. I think cricket should not be played on any of the SANFL ovals any more.

Does the Sturt footy club use the new facility at Mt Barker for any games or trainings for any grades?

Torrens University SA U16 Team defeated by Victoria Metro

The Torrens University SA U16 team has been edged out by just five points as it fought hard to reel in Victoria Metro in Game 3 of the AFL National Championships in Southport.

Needing a win to keep their title hopes alive, the Croweaters trailed by as much as 27 points at half-time before rolling up the sleeves in the second half.

SA’s Aiden Schubert and Will Prescott kicked the only two goals of the third quarter as its defence, led by the polished Josh Reichelt, dried up the Vics’ scoring after the main break.

When nippy SA goalsneak Prescott crumbed a loose ball off hands to run into an open goal in the first minute of the fourth term, the belief was high as the deficit was trimmed to just 10 points.

Vic Metro pushed its advantage back out to 19 points midway through the term but Julian ****’ charges refused to wilt as vice-captain Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier produced a nice finish from 30m to have SA within seven points with three minutes to play.

The Croweaters had opportunities to tie up the scores in the frantic dying stages but it wasn’t to be as they left their charge too late, finishing the Championships with a 1-2 win-loss record.

Reichelt, who set up multiple attacking forays from the back half with his neat kicking, was rated as SA’s best as he tallied 29 disposals, seven marks and six rebound 50s.

Captain Dyson Sharp – named SA’s MVP – was again a strong presence in the middle with 22 disposals, five clearances and seven inside 50s while wingman Harley Barker was solid with 14 disposals and six marks.

It was a strong manner in which to finish the Carnival for Sharp, who was fittingly awarded the Kevin Sheehan Medal as the most outstanding player for the Championships.

Tall utility Aiden Schubert was again a handful for the opposition as he contributed in different ways by registering 14 disposals, 10 hit outs, three marks, three inside 50s and two goals.

Round 13 Torrens University SANFL U18 Match Wraps

Glenelg 16.16 (112) d Norwood 1.2 (8)
Glenelg continued its late-season surge toward the Torrens University SANFL U18 top four with statement-making 104-point win against Norwood at Stratarama Stadium.

Now just one win and percentage outside of finals contention, the Bays looked a class above as they restricted the Redlegs to just one goal while registering a whopping 70 inside 50m entries for the match.

With as many as 11 goal kickers, the hosts had a multitude of strong contributors but it was ruckman Harry Francis who stole the show with 22 disposals, nine marks, two goals and 24 hit outs.

Tiger teammates Bodie Ryan (18 disposals, nine marks), Charlie McAuliffe (31 disposals, two goals) and Ben Camporeale (29 disposals) also got in on the act.

Norwood selected Noah Daw (18 disposals), Matthew Brown and Jake Hill (17 disposals) as its players to show the most resistance on a tough day at the office.

North Adelaide 9.13 (67) d South Adelaide 9.6 (60)
North Adelaide staged a remarkable comeback to pinch the premiership points against South Adelaide at Prospect Oval.

Trailing by as much as 38 points nearing time-on of the third quarter, the Roosters then piled on 7.4 to the Panthers’ 0.1 to record a memorable seven-point win.

North trio Jed Dignan (26 disposals), Louie Montgomery (24 disposals) and Angus Tully (24 disposals) were significant instigators in turning the tide after their side was in deficit at every change.

South captain Nicholas Schroder led the way in defence while midfielders Phoenix Hargrave (24 disposals, two goals) and Tom Wheaton (22 disposals, eight clearances) also battled hard for the visitors.

Central District 10.10 (70) d Woodville-West Torrens 10.5 (65)
Central District held on for a nail-biting five-point win against a fast-finishing Woodville-West Torrens outfit at X Convenience Oval.

Seemingly in control when James Noack extended the Bulldogs’ lead to 16 points in the 11th minute of the final term, the hosts were then forced to withstand a concerted push from the visitors, who kicked consecutive majors through Zac Schwarz and Isaac Edwards.

Through the efforts of Liam Fawcett (16 disposals, five goals), Will McCabe (28 disposals, one goal) and Jesse Kurtz, Central was able to hang tough to regain top spot from the Eagles.

Edwards hit the scoreboard for the visitors with three goals while Harry Dodd (33 disposals, eight marks, eight tackles) and Jake Andrews did their best to conjure a last-gasp victory.

Sturt 17.14 (116) d West Adelaide 4.8 (32)
Sturt surged in the second half to bank valuable percentage with an 84-point win against West Adelaide at Thebarton Oval.

Working hard to establish a 17-point lead at half-time, the Double Blues put down the accelerator in the second half to slam on 11.5 to the Bloods’ four behinds.

Scoring was spread around for Sturt as 10 players registered their name on the goal kicking list, headed by last round’s Torrens University MVP Sam Waltham with four goals.

Double Blues Thomas McCourt (18 disposals), Kobe McEntee (28 disposals, seven clearances, one goal) and Loch Rawlinson (17 disposals) were instrumental in setting their forwards up with opportunities.

Racking up a game-high 32 disposals and eight clearances, West’s Sam Burbridge showed plenty of heart while teammates Riley Hill (16 disposals) and Kade Hilton (14 disposals, one goal) did their best to provide support.

Round 13 Torrens University SANFL U16 Match Wraps

Glenelg 9.13 (67) d Norwood 7.9 (51)
A terrific second quarter proved the difference as Glenelg defeated Norwood by 16 points at Stratarama Stadium in Round 13 of the Torrens University SANFL U16s.

Looking to nail down a top-two spot, the Tigers proved a class above their opponents despite a valiant late surge from Norwood.

Bays ball-winners Isaiah Clothier (30 disposals and five tackles) and Timothy Alver (21 disposals and a goal) were both busy, with teammate Finn Crouch kicking three goals.

Jack Hayter was the standout performer for the Redlegs, gathering 29 disposals, eight tackles and two goals in a losing cause.

North Adelaide 10.7 (67) d South Adelaide 8.13 (61)
A late goal from Jay Saunders helped North Adelaide defeat South Adelaide by six points at Prospect Oval.

In a see-sawing affair, North raced out to a first-term lead, but South hit back to take an advantage into half-time.

The Roosters worked hard to wrestle back the lead as inaccuracy proved fatal for the Panthers.

In contrast, North capitalised on its opportunities in front of goal and snuck home by a goal.

Charlie Dickeson was excellent for the Roosters with 34 disposals and two goals, while Jacob McGarry booted three for the visiting Panthers.

Woodville-West Torrens 8.7 (55) d Central District 6.6 (42)
Woodville-West Torrens remained in touch with the top four following an important 13-point victory over Central District at X Convenience Oval.

The Eagles kept the hosts goalless in the opening term as on-ballers Jevan Phillipou, Zane Peucker and James Chalubek worked hard in the middle.

Although reeling in the margin appeared achievable, the Bulldogs weren’t able to claw their way back against an Eagles outfit eager to snap a two-game losing streak.

Phillipou finished with 23 disposals and a goal and defender James McGorman managed 22 disposals and six rebounds for the Eagles, while Jack Gordon (26 disposals and five marks) was Central’s best.

West Adelaide 4.13 (37) d Sturt 4.8 (32)
West Adelaide pulled off an incredible win by beating ladder-leaders Sturt by five points at Thebarton Oval.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Bloods, with frustrating inaccuracy and a goalless second half nearly preventing the victory.

West kicked four goals and 13 behinds to Sturt’s four goals and eight behinds, with the Blues kicking the only two goals of the second half.

It wasn’t enough though, as West held on to claim the narrow upset victory which ensured it remains in the top four.

Jaylen Sochacki was instrumental for West with 28 disposals and seven inside-50s, with Jett Dahlitz (27 disposals and eight rebounds) strong for Sturt.

I've often seen Sturt train during pre-season at Urrbrae when driving up Cross Rd, so presume they use that also.

Round 14 Torrens University SANFL U18 Match Wraps

Glenelg 14.12 (96) d North Adelaide 8.5 (53)
Glenelg’s Camporeale twins – Ben and Lucas – are continuing to have an impact after inspiring their team to a 43-point win in Round 14 of the Torrens University SANFL U18s at Prospect Oval.

After returning from College duty in the past fortnight, the sons of Carlton premiership wingman Scott Camporeale have been in hot form, racking up 53 disposals between them against the Roosters.

Tiger teammate Tom Corcoran (25 disposals, one goal) was rated as the visitors’ best player while Ben Ridgway (24 disposals, 10 tackles) and Harry Francis (three goals) also made their presence felt.

North’s Hunter Press, Jed Dignan (24 disposals) and Kalan Caputo did their best to prevent their side from trailing at each change before succumbing to a seventh loss of the season.

West Adelaide 10.12 (72) d Central District 7.10 (52)
West Adelaide caused the upset of the season when it toppled premiership pace-setter Central District by 20 points at X Convenience Oval to earn its first win in 2023.

Snapping a 13-game losing streak, the Bloods led at every change in the boilover as they held the Bulldogs to just four behinds in the opening quarter.

Kade Hilton was a defining figure in the visitors’ memorable triumph, kicking 4.4 from his 14 disposals and five marks while Carter Wright and Padrick O’Donoghue (20 disposals) were also lauded by Bloods officials.

Still nestled in second spot on the ladder, the Bulldogs had Lachlan Giles, Sam Sibbick and James Noack fight hard to prevent their team’s shock loss.

South Adelaide 12.10 (82) d Sturt 9.6 (60)
A desperate fourth-quarter flurry ensured South Adelaide would prevail over fellow finals contender Sturt by 22 points at Flinders University Stadium.

Leading by just three points at three quarter-time, the Panthers finished strongly to kick 4.2 in the last term while keeping the Double Blues to just 1.1.

South ruckman Taylor Goad was instrumental in his side’s success with 17 disposals, seven clearances, 25 hit outs, six inside 50s and a goal as he helped teammates Tom Wheaton (19 disposals) and Jake Agnew (16 disposals, four goals) have plenty of chances to thrive.

Now joining the Panthers with an 8-6 win-loss record, the Double Blues praised small forward Wil Thomas for his role while also recognising Declan Gladigau (20 disposals) and Loch Rawlinson.

Woodville-West Torrens 8.16 (64) d Norwood 6.7 (43)
Woodville-West Torrens overcame a goalless first quarter to maintain its place at the top of the table with a 21-point win against Norwood at The Parade.

Managing just five behinds before the first change, the Eagles’ continued to create enough chances on goal despite their inaccuracy resulting in a final tally of 8.16 (64).

Charlie West was a constant presence in the air for the visitors with his 10 marks adding to his 19 disposals and a goal while teammates Jake Andrews and Tate Delmenico were also impressive for the Eagles.

Seventh-placed Norwood will take positives from having five more inside 50s than the ladder-leaders as Connor Butcher (27 disposals, six clearances), Jacob Newton (30 disposals, six clearances) and William Rowlands (23 disposals, one goal) did their best to cause an unlikely result.

Central District 10.7 (67) d West Adelaide 9.3 (57)
Central District snapped a two-game losing streak by defeating West Adelaide by 10 points at X Convenience Oval in Round 14 of the Torrens University SANFL U16s.

West Adelaide got the best of the first term, but Central pegged things back and soon captured a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Fresh off winning the Kevin Sheehan Medal for the best player at the U16 AFL National Championships, Dyson Sharp was back to his prolific best in Bulldogs colours, accumulating 36 disposals, 11 marks and a goal.

There were major goal kickers on both sides, with Aidan Schubert kicking five-straight for Central and Jonty Klemm booting four for the Bloods.

North Adelaide 14.6 (90) d Glenelg 9.10 (64)
North Adelaide made it three wins in a row by defeating Glenelg by 26 points at Prospect Oval.

Glenelg were up to the task in the first half, but North’s strong midfield unit rallied and the Roosters promptly took the lead after the main break.

The home side proved too good as Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier (35 disposals and seven clearances), Sam Cumming (34 disposals and five contested marks) and Charlie Dickeson (32 disposals and three goals) ran riot.

Forward Lachlan Faulkhead kicked five goals for North, while Kobe Gibson and Timothy Alver stood out for the Bays.

Sturt 10.13 (73) d South Adelaide 3.6 (24)
Sturt maintained its lead at the top of the ladder with a 49-point win over South Adelaide at Flinders University Stadium.

The Double Blues raced out the blocks and kicked four unanswered goals in the first term to set up the win.

Sturt had nine individual goal kickers and enjoyed an even spread of contributors, however, midfielder Noah Roberts-Thomson starred with 33 disposals, eight clearances and two goals.

Jesse Nye (24 disposals and 17 tackles) and Jake Wigzell (31 disposals and eight inside-50s) were South Adelaide’s best on a tough day for the Panthers.

Woodville-West Torrens 14.17 (101) d Norwood 8.8 (56)

The Redlegs piled on five first-quarter goals to establish a 24-point lead at the first break, with Mitchell Stevenson booting three majors.

However, the Eagles snapped into gear and kicked the next nine goals of the contest to take full control of the game, running out comfortable victors.

Jevan Phillipou was everywhere for the Eagles, booting six goals to go with 23 disposals and 11 marks in a best-on-ground display.

Norwood’s Jeff Rozenbilds accumulated 39 disposals and nine clearances for the home side while Stevenson finished with five majors.
