how do they come to these conclusions????

Melbourne is a $hithole
I hate even visiting the place
City is gridlocked most of the day
Cant get a train to / from airport
Casino that ate Melbourne - I've never seen a city life so controlled by a casino. Even Monte Carlonese have a life outside the cassas

Sydney is great if you live the lifestyle
I lived in Manly
Warm most of the year / beach life / ferry to work
Trains go to most places
Didn't need a car unless I wanted to go up the Northern beaches
Easy to get to / from the airport

Contrary to this....

I lived in West Melbourne and Fitzroy and travelled everywhere by foot/tram/train. Not an issue at all. I'm a sport-ing person, so being able to travel to the rugby, races, footy, cricket, work and nightlife was important to me. At one time, I needed to drive to Box Hill from the inner city and realised it was easier to use public transport.

Also, I lived in West Ryde. I drove/trained everywhere and it took forever. I tried to travel from West Ryde to Manly one day and gave up and returned home.

So, my summation - it depends on where you live and what you want to do. Don't judge a place solely by your experience.

How else can you judge it? Especially now the government is going to try to control (what they think is) misinformation

West Ryde to Circular Quay by train / Ferry to Manly - easy. Just have to leave a bit earler than driving. Plus you get to enjoy the harbour.

I'm no public transport person in Adelaide but go to any of the major cities around the world and public transport is usually fantastic
Well, other than Melbourne: city to airport

Sydney airport to Manly & vice versa - 1 hour. Sit back and relax the whole way. Around $30

Firstly, why aren't solar panels compulsory when building a new house?
Secondly, why do we put baths in houses these days?
They waste sooooo much water.

Solar I totally agree with you. I believe rain water storage is mandatory, solar should be too.
For baths, you can bathe a toddler or baby in a shower, so I get having a bath.

We must get smarter than this!
We should be strongly encouraged to leave the car at home & take public transport!

You'd be stupid to pay for parking if you dont need too. My wife has too cause she needs to get kids to school and pick up most days, so does not have the luxury of time to park at a train station and get in that way.

Everytime I go to Melbourne I always use the Skybus - absolutely brilliant if you're staying in accommodation near Marvel stadium - far cheaper than a taxi

Yep, going on the 22nd to watch St. Kilda v North Melbourne, booked in to Batman's, right opposite the station & Marvel. Get off bus, walk in to accommodation, Easy Peasy.
