where do the selectors go for the next Test if as expected we lack real penetration and variety, Murphy gets 6fa and Lyon gets 1/200

Really enjoyed Hayden getting stuck into Cummins. Alot of things have become a bit too hard for Pat lately, batting is certainly one of them, didnt want to be out there during the aussie summer when they gave him a few at the grill, looks like bowling in India is now too hard as well. bowled absolute pies and set the scene for the Test series in the opening over. Relieving him of the captaincy cant come quick enough

Poor old Captain Woke - probably too busy thinking about who the sponsors should be and their carbon footprint - all the while being very happy to sit up the pointy end of the plane!!

Ok boomer.

This woke shit is pathetic, as it is just about every time the word is used. It just means whoever used the term has had their precioius belief systems challenged and they are too fragile to cope with it. He did bowl trash though no denying.

HEAD

Head dropped
This is one of Australia's worst sporting moments since the horse racing Fine COTTON scandal

I thought long and hard about why Travis Head was dropped
I go back to 1970 for a well named song ...
Maybe one of the selectors saw this on you tube
Maybe it was the lyrics at the 2:38 mark ?

In this day and age who picks the final 11.
Is it Ronald McDonald and Cummins or do the selectors have a say here?

George Bailey is Chairman of selectors, Andrew McDonald is head coach and Tony Dodemaide is on the selection panel, however, I think he'd not be in India so Bailey, McDonald and Cummins would make the final decision in consultation with Dodemaide.

Travis Head

Had a good summer, or two really.

But how does he go on spinning decks.
Averages just 30.5 in UAE, 22.66 in Pakistan, 7.66 in Sri Lanka, for a combined 21.30 on spinning decks (hasn't played in india).

Yes, his average of 57.40 in Australia is impressive, however he struggles against spin, and even more so on spinning decks.
For example, he averages 152 vs Sri Lanka in Australia, but just 7.66 in Sri Lanka, a ratio of just under 20:1.
Given he averages 29.90 vs India in Australia, if that 20:1 ratio holds true, the mathematicians would tell you his expected average in India will be 1.51

Sure, I'd back him to average more than 1.51, but it's hardly a surprise that the selectors didn't have faith in him.

Yeah but in his defence - one tour, 2 tests - 3 innings.. scores of 6, 12 and 5 were shit - but not the only failures.. Green struggled, Warner struggled, Smith failed twice.

How can you improve on those wickets if you're not given a reasonable crack?

Smith - 151 runs but 145 came in one knock.
Green - 104 runs but 77 came in one knock.
Warner - 64 runs eww.

This is the most damning of the stats.

The selectors have shown faith in him over the last 18 months and in 2022 in 15 innings across 10 matches he made 655 runs at 50, this includes the tours v Pakistan and Sri Lanka where he averaged the 21.30 that you note.

He's in the best form of his career, probably the most comfortable he's been with his position in the side and they've left him out.

It's terrible management of the bloke, especially when you consider we've got this series and the Ashes not too far behind it, awful timing to shatter a blokes confidence.

What shatters your confidence more, thinking the selectors don't think you can make runs against world class spinners on turning decks, or going out and confirming you can't make runs against spinners?
