Been hanging off posting this for a couple of days but here goes.
It not about just changing the date. There needs to be reconciliation, a treaty, constitutional recognition, whatever you want to call it & on the date that happens, thats when we all can celebrate Australia Day. For what its worth, I like the idea of the 1st Monday in February

Yep, Im in this same boat. Was all over it when younger without realising the distress it causes other people. Now it feels like trying to celebrate at a party while friends are mourning at a funeral.

Also I might add, a bit like Valentines Day - Dont feel the need for 1 special day to celebrate how lucky we are to live here, I love my country everyday as Im sure most do.

I dont have the answer (but have appreciated the suggestions within this topic), but am all for shifting the date if it means ALL Australians can celebrate it.

I'm down with that, coincides with a lap around the sun for me.
Whoops, there goes another year. Whoops, there goes another pint of beer.

The reverse of retirement.

Every day is like a public holiday. No work.

My suggestion, sack the Queen's birthday as a concept, replace it with Mabo Day. (also can just have the public holiday on the nearest Monday, separate Mabo Day and the Mabo Day Holiday conceptually)

Rename New Years Day Federation Day

Public holiday to be named by someone more clever on the last weekend in January being usually the Monday, but if this falls on the 26th, have it on the Friday.

Yeah, selfishly I like the rhythm of a public holiday at the end of January. It just fits with summer, a coda signalling people going back to work and kids to school. While I work most of every January, it's always a bit more casual and after Australia Day, then you know things are going to get serious for the year.

I also don't mind the idea of the first week in February, as kids shouldn't be going back to school before then anyway.

Perhaps a floating holiday, make it the Test captain's birthday. Or the day we first won the Ashes in the 1880's. After all we have days off for horse races.

Like making kids protest on the weekend
Have a referendum:
Option 1: No alternative date - it's 26th January or lose a Public Holiday
Option 2: make the Queens Birthday holiday Australia Day and lose one Public Holiday

That will smoke out the ones that actually give a toss
