I had a quick talk with JH a year or so ago. He said that he had put up for the draft and wasn't (obviously) picked. So good outcome for Eagles. And aged 25, he may have missed his chance. More good luck for Eagles. With 6 x 3 and 1 x 2 in MM, he signalled his class.

Geelong will pick him up in about 6 years time.

When he was at that age most likely to be drafted 19-21 he was playing predominantly as a permanent FF or CHF. There's never been ever question that he can take great contested grab but I think the knock on him was his finishing in front of goal. It was probably enough to put question marks on him. A few years on from that the team structure necessitated him spending more time in the ruck and drifting forward. It is in this role he has broken out because it allows him to continue showcasing his marking strength but also his versatility and fitness. And for whatever reason he has hugely improved his kicking for goal. I think he is definitely good enough to play AFL but history shows it is unlikely that someone in their mid-20s will be given a crack which is a shame. Good for the eagles though!

Knoll. Brooksby and Hunter all recruited at 25 or older.

I would take Hayes in a heartbeat.

Heard he once had a meeting with Gold Coast and turned up hungover. Not the best impression. Compared to a lot of spuds on AFL lists it is staggering he is not playing that level. Is clearly the most important player to any team in the SANFL, is a gun.

Losing Grand Finals and thinking of Port Adelaide, we really do own your sorry arses.

Ha Ha the reality is you’ve become the AFL version of the Glenelg Footy Club.

Magnificent in the minor round the epitome of May Premiers but the reality is you’ve had one substantial final win as club in almost 20 years, the 2007 prelim.

Our sorry arses have become your sorry arses!

Yeah but they are all genuine ruckman and were recruited solely for that purpose to help out developing 20 year old options whilst they mature. Hays is only about 194cm which is fine to ruck at SANFL level but is too short to play that role at AFL level. This will count against him. I think if clubs do draft him it will be mainly to play forward

And JH would probably end up as a spare in the VFL. What a waste.

Great to see McNeil, Jones, Wehr, Rowe, 2020 premiership players along with Jack Lukosius and Izaak Rankine at the after party.
Jack Hayes played with a broken leg - what a superstar!

Can you confirm another rumour at the ground yesterday that Ben Jungfer retiring too. Apparently told Sheedy in Round 5 that he was going back to the farm or NT wherever he was from. Would be two flags in twenty odd games if so, not bad effort

Can definitely confirm he is going to work on a property at Fitzroy Crossing NW Western Australia. Straight from his mother.

That is the nature of SANFL footy isn’t it. When you’ve got to make a living you’ve got to make a living. Loved that every game he played he made the most of. Similar old head on young shoulders to another backman who made a similar impression in a shortened career; Zac Hier.

I’m surprised they didn’t hand him the vice captaincy there and then.

Just to stir the pot a little, should the coach of the year be named before the finals? It seems that this year's coach got outcoached twice by Sheedy. What is wrong with waiting a little time to see what happens when thay may come head to head etc

Unfortunately correct also. Jungfer's hardness and desperation have been hallmarks of his game and his straight line attack on the ball will be sorely missed.

This is always a hard one. The fact in the AFL that Clarkson never won Coach of the Year but is regarded as one of the best coaches of all times makes me lean towards the Premiership winning coach getting that honour.

David Westbrook another handy eagles player who retired young for work reasons after winning a Premiership with us in 2006

Reality is Sunday demonstrated who the better coach was

Don’t think Sheedy is looking to swap his Premiership medal for a coach of the year title!
