Without trademarks or the like, how do you check it?

Purely guessing but I reckon the girl might have seen it some time ago then redrawn it without recalling it was someone else's or probably knowing the ramifications of copying someone's design.

Just watched her talking about it at the reveal, said she was inspired by other works she saw on Instagram and it took her a few months to put together.

She's just copied it.

Surely they have someone in the marketing team who deals with copyright laws who signs off on projects like this?

I hope she is looked after by the club which I’m sure she will be.
It’s not her fault(well it is but the club is ultimately to blame here).

I'd say so, but how do you find something if it isn't copyright? Do you just search all images on the internet?

Not defending the club, but asking how would you go about it? I wouldn't know where to start.

I guess it is hard as the artist has come out and said she hasn't had it on Instagram and typically she doesn't with her artwork.

So unless the image was photographed and uploaded and they did an image search it would come down to actually seeing the painting which is down at Flinders Medical Centre.

I think Port have to do away with this community engagement of the gurnseys design is n future and just go straight to an artist for this type of work.

The girl who designed this could say she's an artist, an artist is part of the community, how do you differentiate?

Oh dear. Not good.

The poor girl would’ve had no idea that the jumper would’ve been used on the AFL stage though. As part of their curriculum each student is required to design an original guernsey for the Power Cup, the one voted the best from that school is then used for the school jumper during the Power Cup. I believe PA hold the copyrights for all the designs the students create, and the students sign a declaration indicating its original work.

Each year one jumper design is voted the best

Generally that’s the extent of the use. She would’ve been thinking it gets used in the cup, run around a bit, no harm done.

Unfortunately no comp last year and the proposal was put forward to reward the winner with their design being used for Sir Doug Nichols round.. I believe this is an initiative that PAP are keen to continue moving forward.

I like the design, I hope the original artist receives credit and approves the rights to use the design.

The original artist is certainly laying the blame on the young girl.

“I am deeply hurt by the use of this painting and the ‘artist’ claiming this work (to) be their own,” Campbell added.

“The meaning behind this painting was of my families’ ancestral burial ground at Kingston S.E. and the connection we still have with the native flora and fauna on those lands.

“My mother had sent me a photo of some kangaroos coming out from the scrub to go have a dip in the water, which was the inspiration for this paining.”

That’s why you and I don’t work in that area of expertise!

I have no idea either but surely there is some process even before you apply for copyrights to it?

^You don't have to 'apply' for copyright - it automatically attaches to your work as soon as you've created it. There's no copyright register or anything like that.

So in this case I agree there's absolutely no way the Power could've known about this unless someone from the club actually saw the painting itself.
