There's not much more satisfying as an umpire as checking on the best players for each team and noticing The best two players listed for the winning side got 3 and 1 votes then the best player from the losing side collected the 2 votes.

Nailed it.

So all registered Community Umpires have just received this email:
UmpireAFL wrote:Dear "green maggot"/"biased" if you are an SFL Maroon windcheater wearer,

With emerging evidence of the impacts of head injury in sport, we all have an important role to play to minimize the risk of concussion and enhance the health and safety of those playing Australian Football.

In line with the AFL’s newly updated guidelines for the Management of Concussion in Australian Football, this resource has been created alongside others for players, coaches and volunteers so each segment of our football community is aware of the importance of safe play and ultimately reducing the risk of concussion.

This educational resource for umpires relates to head high contact and dangerous play has been developed to reinforce the important role you play as an umpire in managing our game and reduce the risk of concussion.

https://vimeo.com/561666326/bd3c9538a5?utm_source=AFL+Community+Football+Audiences&utm_campaign=fe93989908-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2021_06_15_06_43&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_7c33e9376c-fe93989908-372740690

We encourage you to keep the conversation going with your fellow umpires, umpire coaches and players over the coming weeks to ensure we are all playing our part to enhance the health and safety of those playing Australian Football.

Ps. As we pass the half point of our community football seasons, and while we have you, we just wanted to give you a shot out! We wanted to say thanks for being an umpire. Umpiring can be very rewarding and, at times, a little thankless – so thank you!

Remember, what we do, and what we do for the game is all about enjoyment and safety, so please keep that front of mind for the remainder the season.

Go well this weekend!

Where a player’s head strikes the ground as a result of a dangerous tackle, a free kick shall be awarded for a dangerous tackle

If that player is affected as a result of the dangerous tackle, that is, is unable to immediately take their kick, the offending player should be reported for rough conduct

So it's pretty clear what the AFL want to happen in community footy Australia wide.

What’s good about umpiring in Darwin is all the ex-AFL players you get to umpire.

Did Matty Campbell a few weeks ago, today umpiring Harry Taylor. Any Geelong merch signed?

Pretty sure they’ll have better umpires than me doing Eddie’s game next week.

Even better today will be umpiring a Glenelg Ressies Premiership player. Glenelg players>AFL Premiership players IMO!

My issue with the dangerous tackle rule was the 'horizontal' tackle which wasn't dangerous, it was more situational and resulted in no-one getting hurt was pinged maybe 50-70% of the time which confused the sh1t out of people, players and coaching staff.

I said to our coaching group, the horizontal tackle is fine - as that isn't coached, it's situational, the vertical tackle (where you pick someone up and dump them) is not. 100% not.

The AFL are totally and utterly to blame for this.

They have created the great divide between their league and all others.

Yep. We can keep going. We will just take players, umpires, training staff etc from the next league.

When the divide between the first and second tier for players is 64 times, then the ramifications start to hit home. I am guessing that umpires are disrespected in the same manner.

Well here in Melbourne at local level for the past 2 seasons the league “asked” umps to take a voluntary pay cut…

I umpire for the love of the game, I get paid for the abuse….

I’m not going to all that effort ( and yes it’s a time consuming “hobby”) for that amount of $$.

So they’ve shat in their own nest in my view.

So making them primadonna's at AFL level helps recruiting them? I would've thought pushing them to the background instead of putting them in the limelight would assist. But clearly I'm wrong... oh maybe not.

We had to do 50% pay cut in SA in 2020, at least it was a shortened season and I liked getting out for a run anyway.

I got sent there for work back in 2009-ish.
Beautiful scenery.

The construction camp had a fence around it to keep the locals out, not-unstandard, however I soon noticed the camp also had a mesh wire roof over it as well.
Turns out the locals like to lob rocks over the fence to try and hit the contractors building them free homes.

The cop shop had every window broken and the officer was run off the island a month or so before we arrived.

Oh, and don't drink the local water, their reservoir has a parasite in it.

To the local umpires, was there a directive this past weekend to pay 25m for any discussion about decisions?

We had two fabulous umpires but there were so many penalties for the smallest discussion, understand if they swear but wasn’t even that.

We had excellent umpires and I’d have them every week

I think this is their 2nd GF after the comp got suspended for a few years due to violence
