Kahuna wrote:Not sure what to make of this. Had a bloke ring our doorbell and ask if we minded if he used our address to order a taxi. He said taxi told him they wouldn't come without a physical address for a pickup. He knew our street name and said he would just be waiting out the front for his cab and was worried we might freak out if we saw him hanging around. He knew the street name and asked for our number. I told him it was on the letter box and that seeing as he asked us questions would he answer some of mine. Told me he had been at a mates place and had decided to walk home, got so far and thought "screw it, I'll call a cab". Reasonable as his stated destination is a good 8 or so kilometers from here. I said I had no objection to him waiting out on the footpath but my Mrs was uncomfortable and a little spooked.

A minute or two later she said he was standing in the middle of our front lawn. I went and had a look out the window just in time to see him take off at full bolt down the road and into a dead end street that leads to a footpath down the linear park thingo. Not seen him since.
No taxi has turned up looking for a fare. Makes me wonder. Just another druggie DH doing some sort of casing job or what? He never got a look into our place and would not have been able to see over our fences or gates.

It's not that I feel threatened by this, just wondering if I am missing something.

I had something similar with a lady pull into my driveway and said her car broke down and was meeting her husband at my address. 15 min earlier there was a motorbike out front of my driveway looking in for a few minutes and drove off. I told her to f..k off and she wouldnt leave my driveway so the constabulary certainly made them move...never knew their motive to this day but reckon they were casing the joint and/or trying to get me to open the door to the lady and the bloke from the motor bike would barge in after.

Gotta start some time Ash! If not that week - then we couldn't fit the 14 rounds in unless we play on school holidays which is less palatable for most parents.

Not sure what the issue is here, some country leagues it's opening day of the season.

Ash Man would be referring to having little kids playing before noon on a day that we're meant to be paying respect to our diggers, generally nothing is open or starts prior to noon.

Nothing like a bit of honey on the old chap to sweeten the deal.

Bloke walks into the front bar, goes to put a bet on the TAB.
Me "Hi mate, how are you today? Have you used the Covid app or signed our register?"
Him as he puts his bet through: "No , I'll be gone soon"
Me "I'm sorry sir, it doesn't matter how brief your visit is if you don't sign in I have to refuse service to you"
Him "Expletive expletive expletive, I don't have to do it anywhere else"
Me " I'm sorry sir, it's the rules we have to abide by and the fact that other may not be doing the right thing doesn't mean I'm going to do the wrong thing too, we face a substantial fine if we get caught doing the wrong thing, shall I cancel your bet?"
Him" Expletive expletive expletive"
I cancel the bet.

I don't understand what drives people to behave like this.

My local cafe Wednesday morning, 3 coppers come in and one of them orders a coffee. As he's paying the other two go to leave, none of them have checked in, I whip out the *cough* "Don't forget to check in lads", one dirty look, zero check ins.
