The AFL's Executive Management Team was paid $10.6 million in salaries in 2019.. That is more than the Wesfarmers Executive Management Team were paid in salaries. The AFL is a $678 million entertainment business. Wesfarmers is a $27,920 million conglomerate.

Way overstaffed and grossly overpaid.

Stop **** around with the game. You don't own it.

Sadly your right, professional sport has 100% moved into the entertainment industry, the games are just the weekly finale to the mid week reality show that is the AFL.

I understand rule introductions that protect players, ultimately it is their workplace and they have to be as 'safe' as reasonably practical. The stuffing around with the game in an attempt to manufacture entertainment is criminal though and they have imo destroyed a sport I once loved and lived for.

I don't care if the game is a bit softer these days, that's fine and some of the stuff in the 70's-80's was just thuggish, what I don't like is sitting there being frustrated for 120 minutes because the rulings are so inconsistent, based on millimetres and impossible for umpires to do their job well.

Well said Doc.

It s why you and I gravitate to the SANFL which for all its flaws is still the best example of the game we love.

Community footy standard is poor

AFL, the footy equivalent of coke zero - tastes like cr@p looks the same (almost) but soon as you consume it you realise I want the real thing (SANFL).

Then again I'm the problem too, I pay my Foxtel subscription and watch Fox Footy inclusive of a game in week in total so the data my Foxtel box sends back says this is what I'm watching even though it's really the best of bad lot of options when there's no SANFL on.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I'm not sure the standard is that low.....but what leaves a sour taste in my mouth is average joes taking hundreds out of community clubs and then prostituting themselves to the next suckers......I know its a two way street and the clubs are also to be blamed but it really has lost that community spirit.

You wont even notice it after round 3, the players will adjust and it will be one of the best rule changes theyve made.

Not me lad, I love the sugar free and can't stand the "real thing". At ten teaspoons of sugar (500kj) a can it's probably just as well, I'm over-weight enough as it is. :D

I get your point though.

Play on.

My thoughts exactly; try to contact engage with the AFL. It is a nightmare. Lots of tight suits, pointy shoes, perfume and big phones (man buns as well at a guess). Very little substance/action. AND they dare to rename our game of Aussie Rules to AFL!

That old painful chestnut, when you're at the coffee machine at work and some chick is telling you that her son plays AFL and you tell her "No he doesn't, he's only 7 years old, he plays football".

Trial game no pressure comes on if you get pumped.

Doubt we will see this in the regular season.

That said I hope we do!
