Head - yep I agree. Hope he can re-invent himself as the others did.

As for Smith Captain, not sure who else there is, and I am not in favour of bowling captains.

Coach is a bigger issue as anything........ Punter maybe?

I agree with everything you have said there, even the Smith part, he is the obvious choice but I don't think we can go down that path again unfortunately.

Punter is a thinker, a real tactician, you hear it when he commentates, it's like he's always the fielding side's captain while he's on the mic.

Ponting earns way too much coaching IPL and commentating too even think about the Aussie job which pays no where near what he’d need to even think about it.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

Could've done worse than go back to the future and play S Marsh as the opener.

Jhye Richardson or Riley Merideth look good with the ball as quicks, Swepson with better variety than Lyon, Ben McDermott hit a 100 in the tour match.

Agree we don't appear to have a lot at the moment, but if you change nothing then nothing changes.

Interesting looking over the SS stats - Starc & Lyon only took 9 wickets earlier this year - both equal 10th.. and Wade made 299 runs - so did Australia give themselves the best opportunity and pick the best in form squad to begin with?

We knew we were up against it from the outset by all of the controversy surrounding Burns, then with the Warner injury Marsh was the obvious go to, the one time the public would've understood perhaps? Even Usman deserved another look in before Harris or the Wade experiment.

Does Meredith play Shield cricket? The numbers aren't great for any kids coming through, it's only the likes of Bird, Abbott, Siddle, Boland and Neser that seem to be taking wickets.

Unfortunately Richardson was never in a position to be selected having not played any first class cricket before this summers BBL due to shoulder surgery and after missing so much cricket he's behind Pattinson, Neser, Abbott, Bird and Steketee in the fast bowler pecking order at the moment. I'm hoping he's back for WA in the second half of the Shield season.

I beg to differ. Even Joe Burns has a better record than him.

Here's a radical idea......piss off the BBL from the calendar and play the shield throughout the summer!

Still room for BBL.. and it's a good concept for kids/families.

Shorten it to playing each side once then finals, make it more a rookie type setup, topped up with couple overseas guys and couple of ex-state cricketers.

Player not selected for their shield side are eligible to play.. or.. play the shield Sun - Wed and BBL from Thursday to Sunday (or vice versa).

Maybe they could go back to state based T20 comp and play a round of shield, ODD and T20 back to back against opposition.

Not in its current format....drags on forever, gives airtime for junk internationals and local players. Now it's starting to show that its not in the best interests of the national team.

This is the way to go I feel, although CA will never do it.

Imagine having Shield Mon - Wed.. Friday recover, Saturday night T20 and Sunday ODD - those who don't make the cut for the shorter format are back playing Grade cricket Saturday.

Have a week or so break between rounds and repeat.. 12 rounds over the season culminating in finals at the end.

Grade cricket would be strengthened, families could get along to Saturday night T20's for their fix and those who play community cricket could still get along on a Sunday and enjoy ODD.

I'd also tweak the SS points format - currently weighted towards aggressive cricket and results (which I don't mind), but needs to be an incentive for sides in both innings to gain points, and incentive for batting long periods of time not just scoring heavily.

I would go as far as to say since the BBL initiative kicked off in 2011.

Even community cricket standard and participation has dropped away significantly.

Test cricket is still alive and in my opinion the best form of the game,

As for a battered and injured Indian squad what an outstanding victory, not withstanding they only required to draw.

The indian captain Rahane is an outstanding leader and very humble unlike some of our lads.

Nathon Lyon , is he called the "goat" as in greatest of all time? if so who called him that ? personally he is a long way from that.

It's a bit of a piss take if you ask me, he assumed the name by becoming the leading Australian off-spinning wicket taker.
