I think Ill plan my European jaunt for October next yeat the earliest now.

"Until we have those, and the probability of having those any time in the next calendar year are incredibly small and I think we should be realistic about that, we're going to have to rely on other social measures, which of course are very socially disruptive, as everyone is finding at the moment.
I think you mentioned you were going to Austria in which case I personally think September to October is the best time of the year to visit. Scenery is still superb, weather will be mostly fine but the hoardes of tourists have started to disappear.

Yeah my daughter talked me out of going in the European summer, sounds like the worst time. October has the extra bonus of being after footy season too and soccer season in Europe too. Might start to get a bit chilly in Scandanavia though.
I love the European summer but most places get too crowded and prices skyrocket. September and October wins for me as prices come down, crowds drop off and driving around is less congested. Even in the Swiss Alps you will still get sunny days in October

The CMO has also noted that the UK can expect to be living under "social distancing restrictions" for another year.

As they're in full lockdown they might come back to a point like we're at and stay there for a year.

Have you got the exact article. All the articles i have read said 'the REST of the year' not a year.

Interested because we were thinking of doing a smaller Irish trip in May next year along with purchasing a house.

This was the one i was sent which definitely says 'REST of the year'...'not another year'.

LONDON — Restrictions on everyday life in Britain to slow the spread of COVID-19 are likely to be needed for the "next calendar year" due to the time needed to develop and roll out vaccines or find a cure, the country's top medic said on Wednesday.

Britain is in the fifth week of a lockdown that only allows people to leave home for essential work, food shopping, exercise and limited other reasons.

The government said last Thursday the full restrictions would remain in place for at least another three weeks, and its chief medical adviser, Chris Whitty, said on Wednesday some forms of social distancing would be needed for much longer.

Normal life will only return once an effective vaccine or treatment for COVID-19 is available, Whitty said at the government's daily news conference.

"Until we have those - and the probability of having those any time in the next calendar year are incredibly small, and I think we should be realistic about that - we're going to have to rely on other social measures," he said.

No new cases today.

438 cases in the state of which 90% ( 394 ) are recovered so only 40 active cases.

Previously had 4 cases under investigation with no epidemiological link, that has been upped to 7.

Yeah voluntary but after discussion with his GP, has had a bit of a fever for 2 weeks that hasn't gone away. He is legally blind from a Mitochondrial disease and has some other health issues so its appropriate that he got tested now they have opened it up to volunteers, he is confident he is OK.

President Donald Trump has suggested patients could be injected with disinfectant as a way of fighting coronavirus.
Speaking from the White House podium, the president of the United States said it could be "interesting to check it out".
"I see the disinfectant where it knocks it out in a minute," Mr Trump said.

"And is there a way we can do something, by an injection inside or almost a cleaning? It would be interesting to check that.
"That you're gonna have to use medical doctors with."
Injecting disinfectant into the human body could very likely be fatal.
Department of Homeland Security science chief Bill Bryan backed away from the president's suggestion.
"We don't do that within our lab," Mr Bryan said.

Mr Trump interjected: "Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't."
After hearing reports that coronavirus dies within minutes on surfaces in direct sunlight, Mr Trump suggested it as a method of treating patients.
"Supposing you brought the light inside the body - either through the skin or some other way," he said.
"It'd be interesting to check that. You'd have to use medical doctors."
Coronavirus response coordinator Deborah Birx, herself a medical doctor, had to dismiss the president's suggestion.

"Not as a treatment," Dr Birx said.
Mr Trump called upon her to see if his theory could work.
"Maybe you can. Maybe you can't. I'm not a doctor. But I'm a person that has a good you-know-what," the president said.
Mr Trump hit out at a reporter who questioned his approach.
"Respectfully, sir, you're the president and people tuning into the briefings, they want to get information and guidance and want to know what to do," The Washington Post's Philip Rucker said.
"They're not looking for rumour."

The president replied: "Hey Phil. I'm the president and you're fake news."
Mr Trump also pointed out that the US coronavirus outbreaks appear to be worse in states that do not support him politically.
"It is interesting the states that are having trouble are blue," he said.
"The states that seem to have the problem happen to be Democrat."

Question is, despite how stupid and ridiculous we see the comment as, someone will try it, so who will be the first to die from it?

I'm surprised he didn't mention shrinking a submarine with a crew of 'medical doctors' to microscopic size to fight the virus internally, 'Fantastic Voyage'-style.
