Are the pitches getting flatter?
Or are our bowlers getting weaker?

Years ago players used to complain that the pitches weren't flat enough. Now they are all flat. Should we go back to putting more grass on the pitches?

Same wickets + Duke ball or Kookaburra Regulation would be good.

Or greener wickets + Kookaburra Turf would be good.

Flat wickets + Kookaburra Turf equals run fest.

You don't mind if wickets are flat as long as they are fast and bouncy but flat and slow with minimal bounce makes for boring cricket.

The Turf balls prepare bowlers for the next level. So using Turf balls over the Regulation to me is a positive. Dukes balls would be awesome for a bit however long term not really necessary.

Plenty of examples from recent years where bowlers take bucket loads of wickets with a Regulation make themselves all look like Glenn McGrath only to have no idea come time to use the Turf ball. Even a couple of guys still rolling their arm over in 1st grade now are perfect examples of that.

More grass on the pitch is the ultimate way. You don't need heaps but put some moisture in it and see how we go. Not long ago every one would complain about too much grass/moisture in them. Which always made me laugh.

These pitches now are only good for 50 over cricket. Not improving the SA game. Fill your boots batsman. You are all champions

The balls need to be changed.
You could play on the fairway at Kooyonga with the current ball and you still wouldn't seam it around.

The Turf balls they use in 1st grade are the 'rejects' that aren't good enough to be used in FC cricket - the balls that get used at 2nd XI and Shield level look and behave different yet they've all got 'Turf' stamped on them.

Why does nobody get 4/400 in 2nd grade? Same wickets - comparatively same skills bowlers vs batsmen - only 6 overs less in a day....
ITS THE BALL.

I think they still use a Regulation in Melbourne local cricket so it isn't unheard of anymore.

Anyway...a bit of rain coming in soon. Hopefully some good cricket tomorrow.

The two undefeated teams fall. A few contenders around

Uni looking ominous, Adelaide have improved from last year in which they were already very good.

If East Torrens get access to Lehmann for the bulk of the season that changes their outlook too.

Good effort by Southerns to draw the game at Bice. Gullies only one win after four rounds (including bye).

Massive one day round next Saturday.

Delayed start? less overs perhaps? I have no idea how 2 day cricket works to be honest.

Think whoever entered the scores just doesn't realise that tie and draw are different things

Game finished in a draw judging by the scores, East Torrens won on 1st innings

From what i could make out it was a draw with last batsmen 16yo McKenzie Best having to face out a last-ball hat-trick (and he got a golden in the first dig)

Might see quite a few of those set up 4th innings games in the two dayers as teams fall off the pace and get desperate.

The early season one dayers has sped up the season.

You used to only see teams roll the dice like that in the last few rounds.

Speaking to someone at ET, think this is exactly what happened. They needed a wicket off the last ball of the match to win outright. So should be 20 points to ET for 1st innings win and no points to Port.

As for these declarations to set up fake second innings points, can't stand it, compromises the whole comp in my opinion.

Gotta hand it to Southerns for hanging on for a draw against TTG the other day. Although I did hear there were a few random umpiring decisions during the game.

Such is life though.

As for their juniors and imports...I can't understand comments this day and age about only producing juniors and playing all them. The world over, sport is full of imports, recruits, ring ins etc. Local sport is no different in the 21st century.

They have still turned more Juniors into state cricketers then University. For a long time Southern have struggled to keep up with the big cashed up clubs down the hill and saw juniors poached. They have done a massive effort in attracting more sponsors to the club and decided to get some Imports in to improve their situation. A more competitive A grade should see kids come back to the club and start to see more of their juniors stay instead of heading down the hill. All of these comments seem awfully like sour grapes that SDCC arent an easy win anymore. Perhaps be grateful that all of these quality foreign players are deciding to play in the Premier grade and will improve the standard overall.
