Meds is only part of the solution, like many difficult problems there isn't just one answer. The positive is though, if someone is on Meds then they have seen a Doctor which is a huge start.

I can vouch for the mental health benefits of exercising after taking up running many years ago.

For sure no argument with you here. I enjoyed running for the same reason actor.

But to say natural endorphins from exercise are as good as meds doesn’t explain to me why full time professional athletes also suffer from depression. How much more exercise can they do?

I’m all for pushing Doctors to think holistically about each patient and not reach straight away for the prescription,

But at the same time telling someone with depression to go to the gym more will not be the right answer in all cases either.

That said I support anything that helps promote more active lifestyles.

Please don’t mistake increased exercise for having to go to a gym. A gym is one of 4 billion ways a person can exercise.
Look I find that running has also helped me alot in this regard.

There is so much more to it that just the physical exercise itself. I mean, you get out doors, let that breeze and vitiam D hit you.

It's not a solution but can be part of a total treatment method

A chick at work has forced me to go for a walk with her each day to get out of the office, dribble some shit and get some exercise, I am feeling way better for it, I'm even sleeping better at night which is great as I've become a bit of an insomniac, so much so that if it doesn't get better I'm going to see my GP.

I wake up just after midnight and don't fall back to sleep until 3 or 4 some days, or not at all.
