I've had two, and it actually feels like a real Christmas.
Mrs. C. says Christmas here doesn't feel festive at all; she likens it to just another family BBQ.
If you're going to North America, go to mid-eastern Canada. It will no doubt be less packed than the touristy places like Whistler, Banff etc.
I highly recommend Ottawa and Toronto. In the former, you can skate on the Rideau Canal during the winter.
