It is easy for me to say this and I am trying not to gloat but when you get a spectacle like yesterday with the crowd and atmosphere to go with it, the SANFl is simply the best suburban competition of any sport in the world. I can't think of any other sport that would get 40,000 people to any game at the level of the SANFL.
JK probably feels a bit like I did way back in 1973. Whilst I was disappointed with the result I was proud that my team was involved in such a spectacle and in awe of one player's contribution. I said after the game yesterday to a well known Norwood poster that although playing in completely different roles, Mitch Grigg's game was the best by a player in a loss since Bob Hammond's epic game in 1973.

College Football has a record attendance in excess of 115,000.

To Be a little fair it wasn't competing with anything really. WAFL had West Coast there Saturday and VFL had Collingwood and Richmond Friday night.
Numbers would have been a lot less if there was a Crows or Port game here.

The SANFL have a window of opportunity to start preparing next year with a strong media marketing campaign to promote the competition on the back of a highly published, widely viewed and highly regarded GF.
Noted the WAFL had 25k spectators to their GF, if the AFL don't destroy the comp by introducing mid season drafts now is the time to spend big time on promotion of the SANFL.

Sturt v Port drew about 40,000 last year, and the Crows were on their way to a Grand Final. Couldn't tell you if there was a game actually in Adelaide on the same weekend though., watching the Crows is about as interesting for me as watching week-old-urine turn into ammonia.
