Couple of pertinent points here. I think there is and has always been a blurry line between 'working' the ball and what is considered ball tampering. This is not a one off incident, and clearly all teams are pushing and have pushed the boundaries.

It's only cricket?

It's national pride, it's millions of supporters pinning their hopes on you staying up all hours of the night to watch, it's your luxurious lifestyle and future nest egg, it's the opportunity to be in the best 11 of a team in a country of 24 million people, it's the chance to be the best in the world..............I see your point.

It's an odd and un-nescessary thing for them to do, and so very disrespectful to to the Baggy Green that these people have worked so hard to achieve in the first place.

Agreed, working the ball to maintain it's condition as close to new as you can is one thing, ripping it to pieces to make it replaceable is another.

FWIW when I’m in the field, I can’t even be bothered shinning the ball, let alone scuffing it up.

Wonder if these comments after the 2016 South Africa series will haunt Warner "I won't comment on the way [South Africa] have been behaving but I just know from an Australian cricket perspective: we hold our heads high and I'll be very disappointed if one of our teammates [illegally change the condition of the ball]," "The rules are in place for a reason, if you're not gonna use them, then why bother having them?"Warner said at a press conference in 2016.

The footage of boof > handscomb on the walkey-talkey paints the picture that he knew about it (and handscomb too most likely). Sorry boof but I think you're gone too.

Either way hes gone... either he was party to it or the senior players are a law unto themselves which is also an indictment on Lehmann.... very sad.

The footage of those two was when it was made obvious they worked out what they were doing on the cameras. Boof probably asking Hanscomb to go speak with Bancroft and find out whats going on

The other side of it is.....Lehmann was never in the loop because he would've gone troppo on smith and warner for even verbalising the idea
