Not an overly interesting explanation sorry.

Oh, so it's a great stat but it's got caveats? I understand.

Na you still failed to beat a team in the 8 at the time of playing them so no matter how you want to interpret it, you've been useless against the good teams.

Sydney in round 1 when nobody is in the 8 but ended up in there at seasons end, West Coast when they weren't in the 8 at the time but ended up in the 8 at seasons end. Caveats*.

Apology accepted.
So you've seen everything have you?

Sooo sides are only good once they're inside the top 8?

But Port when they're inside said top 8 because they lost to other sides inside the top 8 at the time they were in there are not good? :?

Correct. To win finals, you need to beat teams in the Top 8 correct? If you don't beat teams in the Top 8, you're not that good. I don't see what's so hard to understand.

Sydney and West Coast playing finals, Port beat both. They're sides in the 8.

At the end of the day, not good enough against the good sides. Paint it in any stat you like.
What are Port going to do about it?
Ken's plan is not working with a list that should be winning a flag by now.
Change the game plan?
Concentrate on kicking efficiency during the pre season?
Stick with youth and take the pain until they get 40-50 games into them?
Trade aggressively?

You're over rating our list, hardly any "experts" had us in the 8 let alone winning a premiership. It's not an educated comment.

I know, Sydney and West Coast aren't in the top 8 mate. Just come to terms with it. ;)

I think "sticking with Youth" is already in play given the selections on Saturday night. Realistically Port were never going to win the premiership this year, so play the youth in a final (rather than Trengrove/Broadbent/White etc) knowing that next year the team will be better for it.

The best example is Bonners game, and his kicking skills - he should be in the side every week next year.

Richmond can't win the flag because they haven't beat anyone in the top 2 in the minor round

The whole Port not beating a top 8 side is a bit of a stretch. And this is from a Crows supporter. Freo were in the bloody top 8 for 6 weeks leading up to the mid season bye FFS. If you count beating them while they were there as 'a top 8 side', then im done..

Ports record against sides that finished in the 8 still wasn't all that flash having said that. I think (Booney/Morell will prob verify) they were 2-9 or somewhere about that mark

This is a list that was in a prelim in 2014, less than a kick away from a GF.. Not sure on the list turn around since then but the core players are still there? And have topped up with Dixon, Ryder. Plus a smattering of young players. So I think the judgement on the list is relatively fair

It's still a damning stat though. Has it ever happened before that a team has made the 8 without actually beating a team who was in the 8 at the time of playing them? Maybe it happens all the time? Buggered if I know.

I thought the Western Bulldogs were in the 8 for the game at Ballarat.

Round 14, West Coast were 7th when Port went west and beat them. There. Every one can STFU. ;)
