Melbourne ch7 reporting last night the Western Bulldogs are offering Lever a multi million dollar contract.

I think ultimately we are going to have to pay overs for one of Lever and McGovern which will squeeze the other out.

Fair call, you won't be able to offer both 7-800k+ which is what I think other offers will come in at.

Then I guess they have to weigh up who is more important to the list going forward, key defender with Talia, Hartigan and Kelly on board or marking forward with Walker and Jenkins stitched into long term deals.

My guess, you'll be keeping Lever and in my opinion he's the better player in his current role / form. Who knows long term, but right now Lever is a very good player, McGovern might be.

I can see Lever commanding this salary, but not yet with McGovern. He needs a break out year, injury free. I think our only hope is the WA clubs don't offer him (way) overs and he signs a realistic 2 year deal with us. Then if he is a star in those 2 years, get out the cheque book.

I think the Eagles will chase him pretty hard. Josh Kennedy is 30 this year and hasn't had a great run with injury, Darling is 26 and will need some support in 2-3 years when Kennedy is slowing down.

No doubt they are doing what they can to keep both, especially with Tex taking a pay cut.

Yeah I think you are right there Boon. I think we will have a look at him and make a play.

In saying that I think the crows would be reasonably happy if the were able to hang on to Lever and it only cost them McGovern. Lever to me looks the better player, he seems to have plenty of time when he has the ball. Good football brain and awareness about him.

What would be a fair trade for McGovern from the Eagles? Any players involved or draft picks?
Based on the salary the Eagles would be throwing him, I would be thinking 1st rd pick plus player.

He's not a free agent ( or restricted ) so there's no real guidelines but I would think if they want to take pretty highly rated youngster from you it's either a 1st round and future 2nd round or a solid player with a 2nd rounder now.

Try and move Jenkins and his contract and use those extra funds to pay them both should be the move.

I'd be on the phone to Collingwood, Richmond etc. all the clubs in need of a tall forward almost every day shopping Jenkins to them.
