Round 10 Houghton v Mawson Lakes Pulteney v Fitzroy Ingle Farm v Brahma Lodge Salisbury West v West Croydon Trinity OS v Elizabeth
Thoughts?
Battle for the spoon between Houghton and WL The 2 form teams of the competition in Pulteney and Fitzroy this will be a ding dong battle. Probably the next 2 in form teams being Ingle Farm and Brahma Lodge both looking to get into a second chance spot come finals. Both Salisbury West and West Croydon look to be safe from relegation yet neither can play a part in finals footy. TOS haven't beaten anyone of note this might be their chance and Elizabeth haven fallen off the wagon big time. Time to bounce back is NOW
Still waiting on the other clubs midseason reviews Zartan
Zartan's Mid Year Review - Ingle Farm A Grade Won - 5 Lost - 4 Percentage - 55.25% Position - 5th Players Used - 43 Run Home: H - A - H - A - A - H - A - H - A Most Goals - Brad Sanderson (21 goals) Most Valuable - Anthony Spence
Ingle Farm jumped out the blocks with a couple of big wins - first defeating Brahma lodge away from him, then following it up with a whopping 124 point win over Mawson Lakes. They had every right to feel confident, and other sides began to take them more seriously. Unfortunately a run of unavailability and inconsistent side reflected on results, as the Farmers went on a horror run of 4 consecutive loses, and had 43 players utilised over the opening 6 rounds.
Three wins on the trot to wrestle back the balance and head into the break ahead of the ledger at 5/4 has added respectability to the club and finds itself back amongst the front runners.
Brad Sanderson has proven difficult to contain across half forward, to kick 21 goals so far this season. Sanderson has combined well with Nic Lynch and Luke Smith who have also contributed 18 goals each to alleviate the goal scoring pressure, which historically has been a difficult area for the Farmers.
Anthony Spence has easily been the most influential over the first half of the season. A graduate of Zartan's 2013 C grade footy factory, Spence has taken the competition by storm with his versatility and work rate off back and a wing. He has been adjudged amongst the best for the Farmers in 7 of the 8 games he has played.
Maurie Sandery has been another whose consistency across half back has helped to set the Farmers up, and Simon Phillis has been dynamic in the midfield, his rotation with Sam Naylor on a half forward flank has added an increased defensive dimension to the Ingle Farm game play.
Difficult month of football to close out the season, Ingle Farm need to make their move quickly and register the wins before heading into that block. Can easily press for a double chance if they can register some continuity in their lineup, otherwise a repeat of the first half may see them slip outside the 5.

B Grade Won - 7 Lost - 2 Percentage - 75.00% Position - 3rd Players Used - 44 Run Home: H - A - H - A - A - H - A - H - A Most Goals - Sean Watson (18 goals) Most Valuable - Michael Farr
The major beneficiary of a more uneven competition this season, and a fortunate run of luck against sides who have been below strength has helped the Farmers turn at 7-2. Having said that, they've done what has been required and needed when presented with opportunity and grasped it with both hands.
Ingle Farm's B grade have been a victim of the unsettled A grade lineup also, and have used 44 players so far this season.
Sean Watson leds the goal kicking for the Farmers with 18 goals so far, while Matt Atherton has 16 goals to his name,
Michael Farr has been the most valuable for Ingle Farm, with the lightly framed defender constantly being given the big roles on key forwards. His efforts on Freeman (BL), Barmby (PUL) and Furber (ELIZ) were outstanding, and saved the Bulldogs plenty of goals.
A more difficult second half of the season beckons with Brahma Lodge beginning to wind up, and a dangerous Trinity OS starting to get a full compliment of players on board. Will play finals, but could drop right off the pace by seasons end.

Zartan's Mid Year Review - Mawson Lakes A Grade Won - 1 Lost - 8 Percentage - 32.71% Position - 9th Players Used - 33 Run Home: A - H - H - A - A - A - H - A - H Most Goals - Duncan Brown (14 goals) Most Valuable - Darren King
A lot of talk around Mawson Lakes pre-season, and the notion that perhaps they'd be best suited going down to D7 and allowing Para Hills to assume their position, given their recent poor seasons in D6. After starting the season with a stirring victory over Houghton, the Mawson Lakes season has spiraled out of control, plummeting to a 1-8 record at the half way point of the season, and looking destined for relegation.
Surprisingly have only used 33 players so far through the side - an unusually low number considering their defeats.
Duncan Brown has proven consistent up forward for the Mozzies, in a side that has often struggled to kick a winning score, he has 14 goals so far this season. The agile swing man Brayden Bennett with 8 goals has been the Lakes other most dominant forward, while Luke Cates and Michael Marshman have 5 each for the year.
It's no surprise Darren King has been the most valuable so far for the Mozzies. The small inside mid ball magnet has been amongst the best in 5 of his 9 games. Nathan Delbridge has also been a consistent performer, battling hard week in week out. Brayden Bennetts ability to go down back as well as being a focus point across half forward can not be underappreciated either.
With Justin Keast off to the USA and Nathan McCammon returning to Kilburn, the tide doesn't look like turning for the Mozzies over the second half of the season. Arguably the toughest draw to finish as well which features 4 away games in the space of 5 weeks all against expected top 5 sides, hard to see many wins coming.

B Grade Won - 0 Lost - 9 Percentage - 15.92% Position - 10th Players Used - 54 Run Home: A - H - H - A - A - A - H - A - H Most Goals - Matt Ralph & Toby Douglass (4 goals) Most Valuable - Harrison Baker
Winless at the halfway mark, and with a percentage of just 15.92% it's easy to see that Mawson Lakes have unfortunately been a whipping boy in D6R this season. 54 players have gone through the magoos at Lakes, which no doubt has impacted their ability to be more competitive for longer in games.
Matt Ralph in his 3 appearances has kicked 4 goals, along with Toby Douglass - 8 goals between them out of the season team total of 24 goals.
Harrison Baker has been in the best for Mawson Lakes every game he plays, constantly fighting hard down back to repel countless opposition inside 50's. Along with Trevor Reschke, Jamie Speck and Ed Ibrahim can hold their heads high for Mawson Lakes in an otherwise difficult season.
Not much to write about here, as with A grade very difficult draw over the back half of the season, it's hard to see them winning a game to be honest, their best bet will be to try and limit the damage done by opposition sides, and try to impact the make up for the top 5.

Zartan's Mid Year Review - Pulteney A Grade Won - 9 Lost - 0 Percentage - 70.76% Position - 1st Players Used - 32 Run Home: H - H - A - H - A - A - H - A - H Most Goals - Josh Giddings (30 goals) Most Valuable - Shane Cooke
Pulteney have returned to Division 6 this season after a difficult year in Division 5 in 2016, and have wasted no time in making their intentions clear. Ruthless, strong, fit and uncompromising the Blues have destroyed all in their path over the opening half to sit 9-0 at the halfway mark.
Josh Giddings has led the way up forward with 30 majors so far, but Sheldon Currie (22 goals), Daniel Nicholson (19 goals) Shane Cooke (16 goals) have shown that the Blues are not a one man band up forward. Infact of the 32 players to suit up in the 1s this season, only 7x players have failed to kick a goal - 3x of those only played the one game, while others are key defenders.
It would be easy to assume Josh Giddings or ball magnet Dalton Tucker are the most valuable, but i've gone with Shane Cooke. Rated amongst the best on 4 occasions this season, Cooke has also hit the scoreboard with regularity, kicking 16 goals. The output of Hayden Cleveland can not be overlooked either, with the number one ruckman being the major reason the elite midfield brigade are able to win as many clearances at stoppages as they do.
A team full of high quality players. A backline that refuses to allow scores kicked, and arguably the best midfield group that we have seen in this division for a while, the Blues look irresistible and impossible to stop.
A favorable draw which has them home 3 out of the next 4 weeks, with the away game at Houghton will consolidate top 2 position before a more testing month towards the seasons end should ensure they wind up and hit finals full of run and playing their best football.
Rating: A+
B Grade Won - 8 Lost - 1 Percentage - 81.41% Position - 2nd Players Used - 52 Run Home: H - H - A - H - A - A - H - A - H Most Goals - Matt Barmby (28 goals) Most Valuable - Mitch Gurnett
Last years Division 5R premiers, and Grand Finalist the past two seasons, the Blues have set about going on their quest to back to back titles in emphatic fashion so far this year to turn at 8-1. Only 10 seconds, a brain fade and inaccurate kicking has stopped the Blues from matching the A grade in maintaining a perfect start to the year.
Matt Barmby has relished in his opportunity in the B grade. With Nicholson going to the A grade, Barmby has become the main point up forward, and hasn't disappointed - kicking 28 goals so far this season. Lachlan Cook has kicked 13 goals, while Adam Van Den Munckhof and Mitch Gurnett also have double figure goals.
A regular in the A grade during 2015, Mitch Gurnett has shown he is a class above, with the powerful midfielder kicking 10 goals and being among the best on 4 occasions this season to be the most valuable for the Blues. Premiership players Fraser Porteous, Lachlan Cook and Andrew Kimber are amongst others who continue to bolster the B grade, while Daniel Ball and Alex Prior are having break out seasons.
Super fit, well disciplined and sound structures, it's easy to see why Pulteney are proving far too strong in D6R. They'll take some beating over the back half, and would expect they'll join the A grade and enjoy a week off to start the finals, before launching an assault on back to back flags.

Having a discussion with one of the Elizabeth committee I jokingly said if they lost to TOS and Ingle Farm beat BL they could drop out of the five. They won't of course as their percentage will keep them in but the competition is certainly starting to tighten up for finals spots.

Suddenly 6 teams from 2nd to 6th on 12 points, and likely West Croydon on 10 points.. tight indeed!

Who cares about Fitzroy - they're just gonna be in the way this Saturday.
Pulteney are clearly the hunted now. Guess it depends how they handle it in the next 9 rounds and finals.
Fitzroy must be a chance this weekend. It was always going to take time for them to gel and gel they have. They have the most potent forward line in the comp and can definitely kick enough goals to worry the blues this weekend. It appears the last few weeks teams have tried to play extra numbers in defense.
Who is best coached to come up with a way to beat them which club and coach can mastermind a win?
