Theory is good i think.. until clubs begin tanking in the grading rounds to ensure they are allocated to a lower division

Nope, I think clubs should be fined for forfeits, same as cricket.
Might make clubs and players work little harder to find players? Geez i remember playing C grade at Kilburn and some weeks we would only have 14 players - other weeks a car would rock up with drunk "recruits" from the pub anything to get a side on the park haha!

Word yesterday was they're pulling their side? Don't know how accurate that is though.

It's a difficult one. The C Grade footballer is a very transient population. Difficult for clubs to predict accurately from year to year who's in, who's out. Often clubs don't know exactly how many players they have coming out until the season is up and running. Not many C Graders at preseason training before Christmas. A 3-week 'soft intro' to the season would just give the amateur league a bit more data to go on rather than a club's gut feel a couple of months out.
