But the fall-out of the Magarey Medal voting — or rather, the lack of polling by Crows players in the SANFL’s most prestigious individual award — became more intriguing on Sunday during the State league preliminary final. Adelaide had 18 free kicks — and conceded 34 to Sturt.
And this supposed lack of discipline from professional players who are trained daily to work to the rules of Australian football is not a one-off for the Crows reserves.
In 21 SANFL games this season — 18 home-and-away matches and three finals — the Crows reserves:
GAVE up more free kicks than their opponents 17 times.
In the Crows’ biggest win this season — a 94-point win against wooden spooner West Adelaide in round 21 — the Adelaide players gave up 16 free kicks and earned just 13. Clearly they had frustrations in dominating the game.
HAD a -99 free-kick differential.
The worst case of ill discipline from the Crows in the home-and-away season was a -12 differential — 12 to 24 — against Norwood in round 11. Remarkably, when so many of the Crows players were losing the plot in handing free kicks to the Roosters, Adelaide won the game by 47 points.
ONLY once had the free-kick count work strongly in their favour. This was an 11 differential (29-18) against Glenelg in Round 5. The Crows won by 30 points.
Conspiracy theories will abound.

Why would there be an uproar AG. If the SANFL along with the Umps and approved by the AFL, decided it was in the best interests of the comp that Adelaide Reserves should go out in the PF, then who would be in uproar. Non of the above as they "fixed" it, not Sturt as they won and not the Crows fans as they don't give a shit.
The answer is just as likely that neither the Crows or the Crows Reserves actually give a crap about the SANFL and it would suit their cause better to be out of the finals so they all finish together. Without wanting to fuel the conspiracy flames, would it not be just a possibility that they we're just uninterested, and with Sturt trying win the game, they just gave away way more free's.
Rucci's token protest is there because someone from the Crows has to say something to avoid appearing like the club doesn't give a rats.
I haven't seen the game by the way so I'm double guessing.

Dunno about that, stan. People don't try because they don't care about the task at hand. The Crows didn't care about the outcome because they'd rather booze on afterwards. Hence they couldn't have been trying.
That said, I didn't see any of the game, although the brief highlights I saw showed some very, very lazy efforts from some Crows players.
