With the introduction of a week's break after the home and away season finishes, why does the last round still have to be a floating fixture? It's not as if they need to protect top-8 teams from 5-6 day breaks before the 1st week of finals.

Good question...no idea. It will be interesting to see how that scenario plays out.

TV ratings

You can bet your bottom dollar that the sides that need to win to make the finals or stay in the finals will be playing on the Sunday to make those games as relevant as possible to the target of the TV corporations advertising revenue.

Wouldn't mind betting it'll be hawthorn Collingwood on the fri night, Hawthorn needing to win to make top four or stay in, two big Melbourne clubs Ch 7 would think that's special.....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

But the Afl have to crystal ball with the floating round as they have to announce it a few weeks earlier. What they think may happen in all probability might not eventuate. I just hope the Kangaroos don't tank again and cost the Crows a home final....

The interesting thing is the crows hawthorn and crows Geelong games have been the two highest rating Friday night games this year, by a fair margin, significantly bearing he Collingwood Richmond and hawthorn Richmond games. The Bulldogs north game was similar to those other Victorian games

Goes to show that people just want to see good footy, and it doesn't matter if it's the big Victorian clubs involved.

Original article was on the afc site about the crows Hawks being the biggest national ratings all year and then I went digging for other ratings

Hmmm, very interesting. I watch every Friday night game regardless of who is playing. In fact, I refuse to go out on Friday nights during the season, as I would rather veg out & watch the footy....If it is a crap game though, I may not get all the way til the final siren. That will depend a little also on the beer/wine count at that time of the evening.

Agreed. It is he one time slot that I almost always watch regardless of who is playing.

Those two crows games though, along with the dogs Bulldogs games, had a buzz about them that the others didn't imo. People want to see good footy.

I wouldn't mind seeing two Friday night games instead of two Saturday night. Would give some lesser clubs a chance to play on a bigger stage.

Ch7 would never allow that though because of the massive Friday night ratings

I guess the casual viewer has tuned in as the Crows had started the season very well, and games with both the Bulldogs & Hawthorn looked like (and were) better contests than the crap Richmond/Collingwood/Carlton games that had been dished up on a Friday night up until that point.

I have posted before, when do GWS get a crack at Friday night footy? I can't say I have ever watched a full GWS game, even when playing Hawthorn - thankfully I was doing other things when we played them last time....

Other than Stevie J, Shaw & Ward - I couldn't name too many GWS players....be good to know a little more about them before this September.

For me, thats bang on the money. I don't care if it's less fancied clubs (with all due respect) like say Brisbane v St Kilda (for example) so long as both clubs go full tilt and it's close I couldn't care who was playing.

That may be taking it a bit far haha. But north, Bulldogs, gws, Sydney, even Melbourne, are all much better to watch this year than Carlton and Richmond and Collingwood. And it should be reflected

I guess it's more "safe" to give it to those clubs rather than guess as to the fortunes of a Melbourne or a gws.
