Yet Port fans were sprogging themselves when they were competitive against Geelong and Collingwood in trial games in the late 80's, early 90's.

Surely you're not saying that Greg Phillips, Bruce Abernethy, and Mark Williams, three born-and-bred Port Adelaide 'never say die' champions who played for Collingwood that night, merely went through the motions? Very un-Port Adelaide. I can almost hear The Creed peeling off the walls of the Alberton Oval changerooms. ;)

Seriously though, if Collingwood didn't give a stuff then why did they lose by only 8 points, and at the death? You must concede that if they were not 'desperate to win' then they wouldn't have (a) bothered to field a full squad and (b) compete right to the end.
